I think I’ve encountered the bug where you can’t duplicate celltypes when low on MP?

I am pretty sure it was at least originally reported as a bug but I can’t seem to find a reliable bug report for it rn

Also playing multicellular I’ve noticed the multicellular organisms… aren’t exactly very good at surviving and not starving

Edit: I got this unhandled error show up:

I cannot update the launcher when starting Thrive.

Even though I close the launcher, when I start Thrive again, I get the same pop up during “Choose Install Location”. I will try downloading it manually to see it if works that way.

In this thrivesave if you follow the other multicellular organism to the right and use engulf on it, with the big cells of the multicellular organism you control, you can observe ghost cells being created

I don’t remember any fix trying to be attempted on this.

The issue is still open:

>
> Due to the way MP is calculated \*after\* a cell type is added it doesn't cost any…thing to duplicate. That is because the new cell type is already added to the species original data, so the MP comparison finds its base variant and then doesn't cost anything. However before an action is allowed to happen, it checks if there's enough MP so at this point the new cell type doesn't yet exist in the base species and thus costs MP based on how many changes it has from the type that was duplicated. Thus the cell duplication can fail if the player is on MP, whereas the same duplication would succeed with more MP and not cost anything once it succeeds.
>
> So this needs some change somewhere to be more intuitive. One potential would be to make it so that any cell type not existing in the base species would instead compare against the cell type it was duplicated from, that could be a clean way to handle this situation as I don't particularly like the idea of certain actions being able to ignore their MP cost and succeeding anyway.

This is one of those random Godot Engine errors.

Fully grown colonies just shoot gametes forward whenever they are ready.

It’s probably open in the background. So rebooting your computer likely helps.

1.6.0.0 Feedback

What I like:
Microbe:

1. I like the pagination to Patch Notes on the title screen. It is helpful to see the patch notes.
2. I like that there is now a button prompt for entering the editor. More ways to enter the editor means that a Player can choose to use their mouse or a button, which is a good thing.
3. I like the increased bonus from Specialization. It make it more worth it to specialize and incentivize focusing on one or two organelles.
4. I like how now specialization increases Flagella speed. Now Players can make even faster organisms.
5. I very much like the updated membrane textures and shaders, especially for Silica and Calcium Carbonate. Calcium Carbonate is now my favorite looking membrane due to cells looking like bao buns (which is great)!
6. I like how organelle tool tips now show what changes to tolerance are made by each respective organelle. This will make it easier to Players to try and adjust their environmental tolerance, especially Oxygen Tolerance.
7. I also like the new tool tip explaining Oxygen resistance. The new description helps make it more clear what Players need to do to change it.
8. I like how chunks are now rotated randomly. It helps to give more variety to a patch and make it more interesting.
9. I like how now Player can search the Thriveopedia.
10. The new Radioactive banana chunks are now my favorite chunk in Thrive! They look hilarious and beautiful!
11. I also like how much longer Radioactive chunks last. This should help make Radiotrophy more common as an additional playstyle for Players.
12. I like how much smoother the line movement is for the Chemoreceptor. It really does make a difference in terms of being more soothing to the eye.
13. I like the change to how toxins are ignored if they are the last resource left in a cell for digestion. This makes dealing with Toxins much more manageable.
14. It feel strange to have Microbe timestep be 50 million years, but I understand why it was done. I did not even notice it at first until I realized that only 200 million years had elapsed, despite playing for more than 2 turns.

Multicellular:

1. I like the increase to the adjacency bonus. It really helps when making an organism with multiple cell types.
2. I like the new reproduction menu and icons, especially for sporulation.
Microbe.
3. I like the new Germination icon when using Sporulation. It is easier to understand.
4. I like the new actinomyosin organelle, and how it expands and contracts. With this multicellular organelle giving increased forward speed and turning speed to my organism, I can definitely Players making very fast movement specialized cells.
5. I like how Endosymbiosis can still be started and completed in Multicellular. This can allow players to continue trying to achieve one of the hardest things in the game if they wish.
6. I like the new Mass Budding reproduction mode. I was not sure how it would work with more than 2 cells, but when I did it, I realized it simply uses the cell number order to determine which cells are used. Mass budding will definitely help with surviving, as well as those who speed run the game.
7. The new cell meshing is very interesting. It definitely does help with having less organisms stuck between cells.
8. I like the new sexual reproduction with gametes. The 20% MP discount is very helpful, especially on higher difficulties. Also, shooting spiky gametes at other species is quite an effective weapon.

Macroscopic:

1. I like the new myofibril texture. Seems smoother than before.

What could be improved:

1. The Slime Jet definitely feels slower now. Maybe because of how it is no longer frame dependent, and the acceleration is less. Could the Slime Jet speed be buffed slightly, maybe 10%?
2. The Thriveopedia search function definitely needs to be improved to be able to search the Clade Diagram.
3. I noticed that Hydrogen Sulfide did not give damage when having Chemosynthesizing Proteins. I did not see anything about it in the Patch Notes, so I wonder if was forgotten to be added, or if it needed more balancing.
4. Apparently, Sporulation cannot use a cell if it already has the name “Spore”. That should be fixed.
5. I was expecting the cell meshing to make similar size cells next to each other having similar appearance. It is understandable that cells cannot be made be perfectly touching each other due to the grid lay out in Multicellular, but perhaps tweaking the meshing algorithm so that there is maybe 10 to 15% more mesh would be better.
6. When I upgraded sexual reproduction to Anisogamy in Multicellular, I could not find another of my species to reproduce with for quite some time. I had to randomly shoot in different directions and move until I managed to reproduce.
7. While I get why changing membranes is so difficult in Multicellular, it definitely kills the mood of trying things out. Similar thing with being unable to change membranes in Macroscopic. Perhaps a warning pop-up could be added that “You will be unable to change membrane type in Macroscopic. Do you wish to proceed?”, so that new Players are not caught off guard by this when going to Macroscopic.
8. I did not get much divergence of Multicellular species from me. This will probably improve as Multicellular Auto-Evo is improved.
9. Despite moving to land, I am not on land. I do not see any trees or rocks at all.

</div>

It’s super difficult to get to it, I had to use cheats and turn off speed mode to get there, but I think I see the problem: the cells upon getting the “not enough storage” message are kind of half-detached from the colony causing the issue.

It is especially good since now you no longer are required to turn towards the lower right to get to the editor, which could be dangerous if for instance something dangerous was coming from there towards you

Similar here, though it took me a bit longer to notice

Does it return the investment of the used up gametes tho?

This was added a while ago already, and I also think this should be changed to be perhaps more similar to how oxygen tolerance is handled

> [@AnthropocenianAge](#):

This would cause any cells with larger gaps between to become disjointed again

This either it caused rather by or aswell by being a large multicellular, which probably causes more mate spawns to fail due to them intersecting terrain chunks more often

Shouldn’t that phase of experimentation with membranes be in microbe stage?

As I could verify the problem with the provided save and now test that with that change you can actually engulf stuff out of a colony:

The relevant change was not completed.

> [@AnthropocenianAge](#):
>
> 1. Apparently, Sporulation cannot use a cell if it already has the name “Spore”. That should be fixed.

It can never use an existing cell type. That’s the point of the new GUI and changes to it.

Gametes will probably get the same treatment in the future.

> [@AnthropocenianAge](#):
>
> 1. When I upgraded sexual reproduction to Anisogamy in Multicellular, I could not find another of my species to reproduce with for quite some time. I had to randomly shoot in different directions and move until I managed to reproduce.

The signalling agent is kind of necessary to have for the feature to be pleasant to use.
I’m not sure what’s the best way to communicate this to the player.

> [@AnthropocenianAge](#):
>
> 1. Despite moving to land, I am not on land. I do not see any trees or rocks at all.

There doesn’t seem to be an error related to that. Perhaps you simply moved so far away while underwater that you left the area of the ground? All the move to land button does is despawn the rock and spawn in the overground world at 0 , 0 position. So if you are far away the ground will be really far and potentially outside the draw distance.

> [@aah31415](#):
>
> Shouldn’t that phase of experimentation with membranes be in microbe stage?

I think that yeah that is kind of the design. Multicellular is the “last chance” to get to change the membrane. So really upon exiting the microbe stage the player should (mostly) be sure about what membrane they want.
