Auto evo shouldnt evolve nucei so early

Dont exactly think its a bug, but I think that auto evo should be blocked from evolving a few generations (like 10-20) so the player has the chance to evolve it after those generations it becomes available, and it should only happen once. The only exception being the player species (who can evolve it as many times as they want- even if they switch to a new species after extinction), and if the player evolves it before auto evo, it cannot evolve it. also the nucleus should have some form of requirement- maybe related to oxygen. (also unrelated- patches should change into different patches after a while, and organisms will have to adapt to it, but it would be slow changes, like 1-3 generations (I didnt want to create a new thread for that idea))

Welcome to the forum @fishy3rplace !

20 generations is supposed to be close to the total runtime of the microbe stage so that wouldn’t exactly stick

It happens multiple times as to put a kind of a pressure on the player

Is there a scientific basis for such a requirement? Also would it excluded chemolithoautotrophic and anaerobic players?

nightmare to code in

i meant like 10-20 as a way for if the player wanted to stick to being a prokaryote they could- but evolution would still progress along without them- i normally spend a while as a certain cell for a while so the timeline feels a bit more realistic- but i guess earlier could work

i didnt really consider pressure- but every time i play it always seems like things with a nucleus always take up every spot in a patch, and so many of them show up that is hard to find prokaryotes anyways

(didnt want to spam too many pictures but it keeps going on like this, also patch results were also eukaryotic- also unrelated- colony auto evo is so aggressive- only 2 lineages besides mine formed and both went extinct, tho i think that will be changed along with allowing other organisms to become multicellular that dont directly come from the player), i think that the eukaryotes out-compete prokaryotes, and i had a run a while ago i think from 1.1.0 or 1.0.0 that in the 3rd generation a cell became eukaryotic and out competed me and everything else

i mostly stated the oxygen requirement as nuclei as eukaryotes emerged after the great oxygenation event- but it was just some idea i had, maybe a different requirement or no requirement (like surviving an ice shelf) could work

yeah it was just an idea i had to make the planet change over time especially with the time skips in microbe/multicellular/possibly also macro/aware stages

also realized after posting the last 2 images were in the wronbelgium

Endosymbiosis did evolve multiple times in Earth’s History.

10 to 20 turns used to represent 1 Billion to 2 Billion years (100 million years per turn), which is when Eukaryotes are believed to have emerged on Earth. Now 10 to 20 turns represent 500 million to 1 Billion years. However, life seems to have emerged maybe 500 Million years after the formation of the planet, so 10 to 20 turns might actually be 1 Billion to 1.5 Billion years of Geological history. Keep in mind this is from Earth’s Geological history, since on an Alien Planet, Eukaryotes could have emerged earlier, or later, depending on when events like Global Glaciation take place. And just because Eukaryotes emerged only once on Earth (at least according to current living descendent Eukaryotes) does not mean it should be the case on an Alien World. We do not even know when Parakaryotes, a possible important transition to Eukaryotes, emerged.

i did not know that they appeared multiple times i thought that they appeared once and then evolved into multiple kingdoms (plants animals fungi and protists), also i did forget to consider that on an alien world that it would probably happen a few times, and to be fair in thrive it is kinda just a jump with the ER and golgi body included

There have been ideas on Nucleus progression.

Welcome to the forums. @fishy3rplace!

Um, are you sure? Because while Multicellularity evolved several dozen times and Macroscopic size evolved several times, I am fairly certain that the Nucleus only evolved once IRL, though I personally don’t think it is worth the time and effort to make it not evolve multiple times in Thrive.

Did I not write Endosymbiosis? :person_facepalming:

Welp. I just fixed it, and added that Eukaryotes could have evolved multiple times on an Alien World.

Recently people were complaining on the community Discord that no other species get the nucleus beside the player. So either there is great variance in auto-evo or what people consider to be enough nucleus evolving is different.

There might be variance on Auto-Evo, since I have never had as many Eukaryotes seen in these pictures before.

@fishy3rplace What was your AI mutation rate and what turn were those pictures taken?

And also what was the difficulty they were playing on?

Part of the reason here is that Auto-evo does not have an unlock system like the player does. So it does get to try earlier.

But beyond that we do want there to be the possibility of multiple independent evolutions. Though it possibly is happening too often right now. There are some thing we could do to mitigate that, but there’s also a lot of other things to do, even with auto-evo specifically.

It would actually be better to create a separate thread for a separate topic.

By the way, this is an issue with the limited number of species we allow to survive per food source per patch. Expanding that to allow more would be very easy, but there are concerns with auto-evo loading screens taking too long.

Same with this.

At how many myrs have these screenshots been taken? Also I generally don’t find it too troubling to find prokaryotes in patches with well established eukaryotes

Based on the community Discord, there’s been 2-3 people in the last few weeks saying they don’t see AI evolving the nucleus at all. So on the raw count the feedback is still on the side that auto-evo doesn’t place the nucleus often enough.

Considering we now got a person complaining about it happening too often meanwhile, should the likelihood of a nucleus being evolved be increased just so slightly so that the two groups of complainers are roughly equal in numbers, signifying that we have centered the median of nucleus evolutions at the exact right spot, or should it be made so that the variability of the amount of nucleus evolutions per a run is decreased but at the same time more centered on the sweet spot of the amount of eukaryogeneses we want, which would solve both the complaints at the same time (though would probably be costlier to develop)?

normal difficulty

ah i guess that made sense- is it like the ones that get the most energy have the highest chance at survival at the end of a turn?

1.3 bln years, mid-end of multicellular stage, they were from the same patch notes, the issue is the eukaryotes becoming too frequent

normal mode, at 1.3 bln years, sorry i was sleeping

oh thats what you meant, yeah, that makes a bit more sense

i was mostly worrying on it happening too quickly rather than frequency, idk why i decided it should only happen once- despite the possibility of it being an alien world, despite me being a spore addict, there was a run that it evolved on the 4th generation and dominated the patch- cant find the save, i might havve deleted it when that happened

I think eventual autoevo tweaks will allow prokaryotes to persevere more in the future

ok i just had a run where it happened on the 6th gen which i guess would be fine, but kinda annoying, same settings just on LAWK off, and i happened twice more on the next gen, all were from me, im still prokayryotic (it also happened the next gen 4th time in a row(and the next one, 5th time))

When you play, how often do you move between patches?

a few times, but mostly cause i dont like the guys with toxins, i will stay in patches that lack toxic guys, (and preferably piluses but those only really become an issue the multicellular stage)(6th time just happened)
