The Breath of Life || REBOOT

The Breath of Life makes its fantastical return, as promised! Below are the rules and background, just so you can familiarise yourself. :smiley:

Now seeing as this is a reboot, things will start off differently. This won’t have new players, instead, it will be a direct continuation of the old forum game. Old players will still have their positions. The waiting list will be the same. However, there will be a few changes. The new round will be up in a little while, so stay tuned!

Jorus IV
After several million years of stagnation, life begins an new era of experimentation:
Multicellular Life.
This has resulted in a diverse collection of creatures and organisms, paving the way to more complex and specialised life. The world is fresh and unexplored, fit for evolution. One of the most advanced creatures in this new world is Gremus Physcel, a tiny proto-worm that will be give birth to the future of Jorus. It is roughly 0.3 mm in length, and is extremely primitive by our standards. It is a see-through greyish creature, with a small mouth for scooping up clouds of microbes. This mouth leads to a digestive tube running down the length of the body, ending in a very simple anus. It lives in and around the equator of the planet. It reproduces sexually. It has incredibly basic cardiovascular and nervous system. It has no eyes, no limbs, and no back bone. Perfect for any type of creature you want.

Get ready, the race for superiority has begun!

Rules

If you have played any forum evolution game before, the rules are pretty much the same. If you are unsure about anything, please feel free to ask.
For those of you who haven’t played forum games before, the rules are as follows:

  • You may have at most 2 mutation votes per turn, and may skip your turn if necessary. If you choose 1 vote, 2 dice rolls will be performed, and the average will be used. if you choose 2 votes, 1 dice roll will be performed for each. If you choose 0 votes, nothing will happen. This is if you have reached an equilibrium, and fear that any changes will upset your creature’s success.
  • You cannot use any existing or previous species names.
  • Your vote cannot be too abrupt/unrealistic (eg. 10x size, wings)
  • In the first 3 rounds, should you stuff up your species, you will be able to be revived once to give players another chance. Only the first 3 rounds though.

Vote Results

All dice rolls are done with the use of an online randomiser. Do not worry, they are unbiased. If you get any of these numbers, your species will mutate accordingly.

  1. Absolute disaster. Not only has your creature failed in mutating the way you wanted, but it actually drastically evolved in the opposite way.

  2. Unfortunate genes. Your creature has failed at this mutation, and may evolve opposite.

  3. Could have done better. Your creature has partially evolved towards your goal, if at all.

  4. Not too bad actually. Your creature has mutated pretty well, and your species is looking good.

  5. Great. Your creature has successfully mutated the way you wanted.

  6. Fantastic! Your creature has super evolved through pure chance, and your chances of survival are looking better than ever!

Example of vote

Name: Stupidus Animalus
Vote 1: Simple Photosensitive chemicals
Vote 2: Enlarged Tail

Events

Events are things like disasters or continental shifts etc.
They happen with no pattern, but all players will get 2 rounds notice.

One last thing…

Remember, this is only a game, so don’t get mad if you lose.
After all, you can always branch off someone else’s species to continue playing!

Now, go fourth and conquer! Again!

Round 6 – Palogoric Flourish

Things are beginning to stir in the Palogoric Sea, with a brand-new array of creatures. Several new species of shelled, squishy organisms are scattered along the shallow ocean floor, distant cousins of the Protoworms. They get around by crawling in a caterpillar-esque fashion, their tail attached to a long, patterned shell. They eat by filter feeding the algae on the sand, and pose no real threat to the other creatures. Meanwhile, the Protoworms are reaching new heights with new mutations and migrations, going places no worm has ever been before! New food sources are everywhere, and this section of the Palogoric Sea has become a biological testing ground! That does not mean these waters will stay this way, however. Small cracks are appearing in the rocky sea beds, along with faint rumblings. Not that anything can hear them at this point in time…

DISASTER COUNTDOWN – 2

@BlackInk

Swim Bladder= 2
Meat dissolving Enzymes= 3

Species: Inkus corticus

Status= Threatened

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Small Plants

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.6 mm in length

Description: Despite its more advanced digestive enzymes, microbe numbers have plummeted, leaving it purely herbivorous. Inkus corticus would survive just as well regardless of the microbe population’s existence, and so is unaffected by this change. This species has also developed a tiny, virtually useless gas filled organ that has no impact on its everyday movement whatsoever, but allows for slightly steadier control when ascending or descending for short periods from the slimy, sandy banks of its home.

@ostrich

Increase in size= 4
Anchor muscles to the exoskeleton if they aren’t already= 2

Species: Strutionum vermis

Status= Least Concern

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Microbes and Small plants

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.5 mm in length

Description: Strutionum vermis numbers are booming, basing their main diet off of moss and small photosynthesising growths along the sea bed. It seems that this species has gotten their foot in the right door, outperforming all of its distant cousins. Despite this, they have become somewhat clumsier, with less muscles to move their thicker skin. This has slightly impeded on their recent success, and their size increase certainly hasn’t helped. However, the oversaturation of plant food along the sea floor proves this development as nothing too drastic.

Search for food= 3
Improve the musculature= 5

Species: Cookillium thrivus

Status= Vulnerable

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Microbes

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.3 mm in length

Description: In a desperate attempt to escape extinction, what is left of the Cookillium thrivus population has moved north, to find new food sources. However, the species was not able to move far, and found the exact same food sources that exist south. The migration was not a complete waste of time however, as it lead the Protoworms to a small but untouched cluster of microbe clouds. This has allowed them to survive through the coming years, just enough to develop something that can help them. The stroke of luck does not end here however, as their now improved musculature has further aided them in moving faster and stronger, even at times enabling them to wiggle up above the sea bed to reach higher microbes in short bursts.

@Biologicah

Anchor points for the skeletal= 4
Attempt a tailboi= 6

Species: Srik’lini

Status= Least Concern

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Microbes and Small Plants

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.8 mm in length

Description: This creature has adopted more of an eel-like shape than its rivals, allowing for faster, sleeker and more manoeuvrable movement. This new, longer tail gives Srik’lini the ability to swim higher than any Protoworm than ever before, even able to stay moving through the water for up to several minutes. This allows it to begin feeding on the previously out-of-reach microbe populations before anyone else.

@serialkiller

Shark-esque Skin: 2
Longer body: 3

Species: Interfectorem magna

Status= Endangered

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Microbes and Ditritus

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.7 mm in length

Description: Unlike their siblings, Interfectorem magna is lagging behind. Their oversized shape matched with their small weak fins makes for one tricky situation. They have evolved to have a slightly leaner, longer body. While they can technically eat remains of deceased creatures, they are unable to digest all nutrients and proteins that it contains, leaving a lot of waste. With the recent lack of available microbes, they cannot live purely off of detritus. Their skin remains unchanged.

@immortaldragon

Elongated Tail= 5
Small fins near head= 2

Species: Cookillium veritas

Status= Threatened

Habitat= Tropical ocean sand banks

Role= Bottom feeder

Diet= Microbes and Rotten Remains

Reproduction= Asexual

Lifespan= 3 yrs

Size= 0.5 mm in length

Description: Like quite a few of its cousins, Cookillium veritas too has realised the need for more precise movement, evolving a longer tail to aid in movement. It now resembles Srik’lini to an extent, but both lead very different lifestyles, with this Protoworm feeding off of the slimy remains of other creatures, rather than photosynthesising organisms. Another development are two tiny fins found directly behind the head. However, they are too small to move or serve any purpose other than creating unnecessary drag.

Mutation One
Improve photoreceptors
Mutation Two
Improve ability to digest mossers

Thanks for the round Quantum! :grin: Gonna be a little bit shot in the dark-ish, since I don’t remember what my past mutations are. xD

Mutation 1: Jaw

Mutation 2: Tail fins

Thanks for the round quantum, i must admit I kinda forgot how my species looks so I will go with something generic

Mutation 1: Hard plates on the outside
Mutation 2: Better olfactory system

It seems quite a few of you are forgetting what your creatures look like, but dont worry, so am I.
Luckily I drew an image of all player’s flat worms during round 4, and I dug it back up again to remind you of the general evolutionary direction your creatures were heading, so here!

Remember, this is not the most recent iteration, only what they looked like during Round - 4. Also RIP Gremus physcel…

A real game eh?

I should call it… Thrive!
