Crash on Death (nouveau)

#1

Processed crash file is here: https://pastebin.com/zVnDirAv

Repeatably happens on death of one’s cell. Again, I’m running Debian 10. (On a slightly aged Macbook Pro)

The log gets flooded with stuff like:

nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000 nouveau: 0x00000000

until the crash happens a minute or two later, when it ends with “child process exited with code null”.

Looks like the crash is happening within nouveau. I’m going to guess that as the game works with intel graphics on Linux, there is a bug in nouveau. This is unlikely to be fixed soon.

You should install the proprietary nvidia drivers.

#3

Okay, I’ll try to do that (drivers can be tricky). So I guess I should create a bug report with the Nouveau team, if this is a Nouveau problem? Do you think there’s any information with respect to Thrive I should include?

#4

I’m not 100% sure that this is a bug in nouveau, it might be that all the other drivers do something non-standard. But I think the chance of that is low enough that it is worth it to report this as a bug to nouveau.

I have not reported any bugs to nouveau so I’m not sure what information should be included.
But a good start would be linking the game’s source code and a binary release that can be used to test.

#5

Thrive is using the 2D driver, right?

#6

No. Thrive uses OpenGL 3. We are using the Ogre3D graphics engine with the OpenGL3+ module.

#7

Uhh, so the 3D driver then? Or the DRM? Where I’m supposed to submit the bug report for Nouveau depends on this. This is an OpenGL question, isn’t it?

#8

I think this is the relevant piece of advice:
" Bugs in the 3D driver are under product “Mesa”, component “Drivers/DRI/nouveau” (statistics). Please, check MesaDrivers page before submitting any reports."
