Didn’t know that. How about a different topic, say… What kinds of personalities for leaders would you like to see in thrive? There’s alot of options thrive can write entertainingly.

</div>

Well I suppose we should see a good variety of those personalities. I recall there are some solid classification systems for what sort of personality one has so maybe we could build the leaders around that?

I think your overcomplicating things. In books, do writers tell you exactly how each character acts? Show, not tell. The devs would /maybe/ classify what kind of government they are (Democracy‐‐Oligarchy‐‐Etcetera.) But that might just be about it, because then the players‐‐via interacting with those leaders, can figure out for themselves what they’re like.

</div>

Oh, I thought we were discussing the leaders as if they were independent characters and not mere puppets? Though I wonder whether other (non-player) leaders would have a more developed personality or not

</div>

Sorry if I implied otherwise-‐what I meant to say, is that thrive won’t tell you other leaders personalities, you’ll have to chat with them to figure out their traits. Simple enough, right?

</div>

Well that does still mean they have those traits, just that they wouldn’t be shown to you directly.

</div>

Exactly! See, your getting it now… they still /have/ those traits, but, to know what their like you have to talk to them yourself. Chatting to them about… Territory? Trade?

What’s the thing with the /(word)/ btw

</div>

It’s emphasis. Like how some people use italics to make people _focus_ on a specfic word. I just prefer using // these since they catch your eye a little better. But let’s get on topic, maybe your own leaders actions could be influenced by previous phases. That might be too in depth though.

You mean stages, like in spore, or something else?

<div class="post-metadata">

</div>

Well, I think phases fits better. Phase sort of means a cycle, things are /more/ interconnected‐‐while a stage means a part in a sequence of events/periods. Anyway, what you said is basically what I meant, so, yeah, sort of like the big S. Could you elaborate further?

<div class="post-metadata">

### Author: ![aah31415](https://thrivecommunity-cdn.b-cdn.net/user_avatar/community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/aah31415/32/14564_2.png) [@aah31415](https://community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/u/aah31415)

</div>

I kind of feel like the way Spore handled this would be too simple or not scientific enough for Thrive purposes, so we would need a more advanced system to figure out how one stage tugs on the other and then on the civ and it’s leaders rather than what the big S did

</div>

I think they discussed that in the dev forums. What do you think would be a good way to figure out how other phases affect societal stage? I’m assuming that when talking to other species, you will have options to act either, Respectful, Neutral, or Disrespectful… So, what impact could other phases have on this?

---

<div class="post-metadata">

### Author: ![aah31415](https://thrivecommunity-cdn.b-cdn.net/user_avatar/community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/aah31415/32/14564_2.png) [@aah31415](https://community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/u/aah31415)

</div>

Perhaps choosing certain of these three options would make the people negative of their leaders based on the sort of dissimilarities between the species and their histories?

---

<div class="post-metadata">

### Author: ![swooce](https://thrivecommunity-cdn.b-cdn.net/user_avatar/community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/swooce/32/15377_2.png) [@swooce](https://community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/u/swooce)

</div>

I get it. If you pick the opposite of how your species normally acts‐‐like if your species is usually mean, but your leader is nice and diplomatic, then your species dislikes your leader. Right?

---

<div class="post-metadata">

### Author: ![aah31415](https://thrivecommunity-cdn.b-cdn.net/user_avatar/community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/aah31415/32/14564_2.png) [@aah31415](https://community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/u/aah31415)

</div>

What I meant was that perhaps acting in certain ways to other species and their civs could be seen negatively by your own society, which would expect of you to act in a different way from what you have chosen, and those expectations of your society would be set by comparing your species’ history to the history of the other species in consideration

</div>

Yeah, I get what your saying for the most part. I don’t think it’d really fit though… Maybe instead, Since blank slates are usually, sort of boring to read, Maybe you could pick your leaders personality? I guess? And they could give stat bonuses, perhaps.

</div>

I thought you said you would be the one speaking through the leader, making them sort of lack a personality of their own, making you be the builder of their personality in a way?

---

</div>

Um, no, I said you pick their choices‐‐I didn’t say “you speak through them”. They’re still their own individual. You know visual novels, right? This is sort of like that, you can pick a option for what you’d like to say‐‐and your character says it, not you. Is there anything else you need me to clarify… just making sure you understand my idea.

I think I should understand it by now then, do you want to develop it further now that I/others don’t need further clarification on what was already said?
