It’s good that you understand, I suppose. Bonuses depending on your leaders personality would be somewhat interesting, though! If they were added they shouldn’t be too strong because then, people would pick “meta” choices, and not choices they’d actually like to play as. They should be quite minor bonuses if you ask me. Just a 10% increase or something on like… developing technology, something along those lines.
Maybe those could be tradeoffs and not just increases?
That’s why I made them so subtle‐‐it wouldn’t really affect your playthrough majorly, and therefore, wouldn’t need a tradeoff.
Would those bonuses be found at every step of the way or only in some specific situations, or a spectrum between the two options?
Um, they have Queens, so, they already have leaders. A group of eusocial colonies would be a collection of Queens. How would eusocial insects NOT have leaders?
I think the idea behind collectivist species has been the hivemind which thus far has not been observed in nature iirc
So your suggestion is the possibility of being a Leaderless Hive Minded Social Creature as opposed to both having a Queen (a leader) and Swarm Intelligence (one type of hive mind)? Hmm, interesting.
Oh, to answer your question… probably? I’d love if thrive implemented dialog like this article‐‐it doesn’t go into heavy detail about how it works, but from what it seems, Ultima Ratio Regum (“the last argument of kings”) does what your post says, creating dialogue based off of cultures, religions, etc. It has a sophisticated procedural/parametric(?) Dialogue system‐‐of course, thrive wouldn’t need to go to the extent this shown… but there are some good to be learnt here. And mind the personal intrusion but, it is a great read.
Here’s the Wikipedia article, by the way.
I kind of thought hiveminds were like swarms but with the ability of possessing significantly differenciated individuals
Would things like inventions of social media or the prinitng press in the game affect dialogue choices, since they would affect how a Player’s species could communicate?
I mean… it could, but what affect would it have? Your a leader and acting formal anyway.
Maybe the leaders would need to deal with the range and intricancies of those means of communition to not be seen as backwards?
What? That’s too much detail for a dialogue system for thrive. You don’t need to overcomplicate things because it’ll overwhelm the player. Most of the complexities about dialogue, should happen behind the scenes.
So I think then for the most part the nature of the leaders would remain the same regardless of the means of communication available to them?
It would probably speed up reaction time. Printing might make it easier to recruit people for whatever positions you need to fill, as well as to change public opinion faster, while cell phones could be the difference between being told a colony had fallen last turn or being able to try to save it. Although cell phones are not exactly social media, hmm.
Maybe this ability could be better represented by telegraph networks?
The original telegraph network took much longer to send and translate beeping than does cellular phones. Each development would speed things up more and more.
I suppose the endgame of it would be lightspeed communication like what we more or less have now?
Well, hypothetically, FTL could have something even faster than what we do, but that is WAY down the line. Light travels faster than sound. Alternatively, maybe some kind of thought transmission device? I guess we will see what kinds of future technology the Devs settle on in the later space stage.
I suppose FTL communication would be a non-tawk tech
