Heterotrophy is unreliable

Probably it was changed to a % from a fixed amount.

The AI population bonuses or penalties from external effects has not been changed for the past years at all.

I just checked in the code, and the penalty for dying has not been changed whatsoever since the porting of the game to Godot in 2020.

No it was not changed.

It could probably use some work then since we’ve got a whole new autoevo system since that time.

Having played a bit recently:

It seems to me that if you use the auto-evo exploration tool, no eukaryotes get made (even after 40 generations). But after I became a eukaryotic heterotroph (auto-evo considers my species to be a complete failure, by the way), eukaryotic photosynthesizers do end up displacing the prokaryotes.

But thus maybe creating a situation where Eukaryotes need to be buffed to actually show up again? Not sure.

In an attempt of mine they did evolve but I think they never ended up getting more than 20% share of all the species.

I wouldn’t say heterotrophy is unreliable I managed to get to generation 27 or 28 and I even go a nucleus. Unfortunately my food started to runout. Eukaryotic photosynthesizing organisms haven’t evolved yet but there is still a new patch I could go to with more photosynthesizing prokaryotes I could eat and keep living. Also if a nucleus evolves, then I would be able to start Thriving.

Also kinda of my 2nd time (I think) being a heterotroph because tasting the sun and sitting there got boring.

Edit: Ok the first eukaryote photosynthesizer has appeared generation 29

I think the hardest part is when you’re trying to be a prokaryotic predator because you won’t have the means to engulf the resiliant cells at that point yet.
