In the current version of thrive, the most different species of cells I have ever seen in a single patch is 13. I don’t think this would be enough for an Earthlike ecosystem, where you have countless species of insects alone. Thus, I was hoping to know how many different species the devs are planning on having in each individual patch, and how they’ll be able to process them all.
Keep in mind that short cuts will have be taken in order to make the game still playable on lower end PCs. Most likely, it will involve an expanded version of the miche system, but not by too much, since Auto-Evo times have kept reasonably low.
SO how many species would you say that is? Does it scale with processing power like graphics low and high options?
I don’t know. I am not a dev. I think it would be cool if some members of the same species were slightly different, even if it is was just a graphical difference rather than something actually mutated. That would definitely add some variety to what is being seen.
Wait I just realized that you could have variations like that based off of latitude
Welcome to the forums, @CosmosStudios!
At the moment, I do not believe there is an option to increase/reduce miches based on what your computer can handle. The option has been discussed, but that is probably a lot of work, and the basic system for a low end computer still needs some more work and refinement before the Devs can consider optional expansions for high end computers.
Wouldn’t the total number of animal-like species also depend on amount of available vegetation-equivalent organisms?
Yeah we’ll need more processing space for different types of plants too
I think that an average macro+ ecosystem would probably need like 20 species at the very most to make for a good and engaging experience for the player for interacting with those species and the wider system of them
So like 10 small and 10 large species?
Could be base it off some literature, too? Article is only on grasslands, by the way.

How many of those would be flora? Like a third?
Would the game even distinguish between flora and fungi if they are sessile?
Probably since they obtain nutrients differently
The world size option is basically a performance option for how long you want to wait for auto-evo (depending on the speed of your computer).
Btw why do we assume the developers would specifically add features only available to a small amount of thrive users with very beefed PCs?
just wait until you see my patch (i have like 20 species there)
I think when we get to the more complex patch systems of macro+ we’ll have less species in a sector but more sectors overall
Wait could that entail like insect size sectors as opposed to human size sectors?
No I think it’s supposed to be like 5-7 biomes a continent no matter your org’s size
And the biomes will be influenced by life colonization, right?
