Lets make a planetary ecosystem, species by species

the basics
ok so the idea is that we start with a generic ocean setting in which only unicellular and very simple species exist, then anyone is open to make a species and add it to the ecosystem. For example, you may make a generic fish species and say it filters out bacteria along with oxygen with its gills, then someone might make a jellyfishy species that feeds on your species. You may also add things like “it feeds on (SECOND PLANT SPECIES SUBMITTED AFTER THIS ONE)” to add some fun but you should edit your post when said plant species gets submitted.

areas
Well name the planet Ludus and the generic ocean area “archi ocean”. When an area has at lest 6 species and 3 or more people typed in the meta thread ill link in a reply “lets move on”, people submit their ideas for a new area in the meta thread and around a day after the people in the meta thread will vote on it. After that happens, the creator of the new area will put the area description in a reply in this thread and every species created after that will live in the new area. You may also book a post if the current area is inbetween the first person saying “lets move on” and the new area being posted here

rules

  1. no “lets move on” before at least 6 species in an area have been created
  2. this thread is exclusively for new area posts and species submissions, all talk about someones super cool or super uncool species and such is to be reserved for the meta thread, this includes "lets move on"s
  3. only one penis creature per area allowed
  4. art is encouraged, but not the least bit required

I am beyond confused I don’t get what this thread is saying, but it sounds cool please help

what i meant by new area posts is actually when the next area has been submitted and voted on in the meta thread, this one is exclusively for new species and areas which are confirmed to be put here

Alright, time for the first species:

•Name: Green Photojelly
•Location: Archi Ocean (and any connected salt water regions)
•Description: Green Photojellies are a species of jellyfish that grow algae inside them to eat later.
They leisurely float around most oceans,
Absorbing algae and collecting minerals from the water.
The are small(~10 cm in diameter) and lack any sort of venom or stinger.

name: videndum piscis (gazefish)
alter name: eye monchies
alter alter name: injury gorls
size: 1 meter in height
max speed: 85 km/h (but its a long way there)

picture

Summary

these murderfucks are carnivorous species who eat green photojellies and jelly vacuum shrimp, they can see from their open mouth, which they only close when their prey is in them. When the prey is in, the gazefish closes its mouth and begins needling in digestive fluid through its spikes, this process usually lasts around 5 minutes to eat a green photojelly, during this time its completely blinded.

they are not intelligent enough to know fear and theyre pretty solitary.

they do not have fins, instead they succ in water and shoot it out through the holes in the back, they also breathe during this process and it gets easier when they get momentum

dam it, i got beaten to the first predator :expressionless:

species name: Gelata Vacuo Caris (jelly vacuum shrimp)
lenght: 50/70 cm
diet: Green Photojelly and evrything that doesnt have a skieleton or armor
location: evrywere where the Green Photojelly lives

description

Gelata Vacuo Caris are predatory species witch are only able to consume gelatonous organisms do to a lack of any kind of jaw, they use there 3 leg like apendages to squish its prey into its narrow jawless mouth. there covered in chitine exso skieleton witch provides partial protection from the spikes of its predator, the Gazefish, allowing for a smal chance for the jelly-vacuum to escape. they can reach the speed of maxsimum of 40 km/h, and are capeble of sharp turns in order to avoid its main predator. they posses 8 insect like eyes witch they use to spot its slow moving prey and fast moving predator.
althou there not the most inteligent there self preservation sense is complex enough to run from evrything faster than itself, and aproach evrything that moves slowly and acts like its prey.

Anatomy

blue: respiratory
yellow: nervous
orange: digestive
violet: reproductive

the digestive and respiratory system meat in the first after the head segment in a pump like organ, the plate divideing both parts of the organ moves up and down creating suction in both systems alowing the water and food to float in the right direction.

Guess I’m the ‘bottom of the food chain’ guy now, anyway:
•Name: Frilled Bubble Worm
•Location: Any Deep Ocean
•Size: ~50cm in length for the actual worm
•Description:
The frilled bubble worm is a detritivore found at the bottom of the ocean.
They possess a bright red frill, which they use to collect any dead marine snow as food, to build small mud tubes which they live their entire lives in, and it’s somewhat poisonous(usually not lethal, but it does cause nausea). To reproduce they make thousands of eggs asexually, which they send upwards on bubbles so that they can be send extremely far away using ocean currents.
There’s a rare variation known as the ‘albino bubble worm’, which occur when a frilled bubble worm lives in direct sunlight, which causes their red frill to become bleached and loose its poison. Most albino worms die of starvation or being eaten, and are frequently smaller then their counterparts from due to lack of food.

This my last one for this region.

alright, time for another shrimp

species name: angelus caris (angel shrimp)
lenght: 30/60 cm
diet: green photojelly untill it reaches maturity
habitat: during the day neer the surface, during the night deep in the ocean

Description

angel shrimp is a sister species to the jelly vacuum, most of there swimming lobes have evolved to be longer and are mostly ussed for fotositesis, there usualy rolled back under its armor when the animal is swimming. they lose one pair of there eyes when maturing do to drastic changes in there head structure, hoever the rest of there eyes become more powerfull in the process.
before it matures it sustains itself and acts simularly to the jelly vacuum, however when it mateurs it’s second after head section’s swimming lobes fill with algie and elongate, at witch point the animal can sustain itself only on fotosyntesis of the algie witch with they are in symbiosis with. imateur angel shrimps are loners, in contrast mature ones swimm neer the surface in gropes of 3 to 12 individiuals in order to protect themself from predators the gazefish and the eater worm. when a individual mature angel shrimps is attacked by a predator the whole herd will start to slash and stab the attacker with there 3 leg like apendages untill it gets too far away or dies.

Anatomy

there internal structure is realy simular to jelly vacuum exscept for the reduced digestive track in mature individuals and slightly larger brain.

sorry for not making it a predator but this idea seemed cool
name: foamhorse
size: 30-41 cm in height
max speed: 60km/h

picture

Summary

these creatures are capable of eating most plants and can produce foam of various colours and strength, their graceful tails allow for incredible maneouverability and their surprisingly swell intelligense gives them the ability to make art or simple communication through their foam forming.

They can usually be found in colonies, most colonines differentiate by the foam statues they make and the sea cave they reside in, altough they are mostly harmless, they can outwit predators.

Name: Sideryote
Size: 10-50 µm
Habitat: Anywhere with high amounts of iron
Description:
Sideryotes are a eukaryotic species of cell that get most of their energy from iron. They have no organelles that produce or feed on glucose, as they don’t need it for energy. They also produce all their own ammonia. Their colonies leave behind a unique kind of stone known as sideryite, formed from the buildup of trillions of dead, iron-rich sideryotes.

Species name: Devil’s Heart
Size: 25-40 cm
Diet: Microbes and photosynthesis
Habitat: Sub-tropical seas

Description

The Devil’s Heart is a long stringy macro algae, the stems are green with bright red tips with bright red bulbs that holds spores and also have sticky tentacles on top of them that digest microbes. Devil’s Hearts are quite common in subtropical seas where it grows in large fields.

well, stil no predator for my shrimp, im going to send out another shrimp to eat it if one wont be made in the neer future.

species name: rete pisces (netter/net-fish)
lenght: 20/50 cm
diet: plankton and microbes
habitat: wherever you can find plankton in the Arch Ocean

Description

netters have evolved to filter out plankton from water that passes thru there mouth, they posess 4 compound eyes on the sides of it’s “head”.
they are prayed on by many species including (NEXT LARGE PREDATOR SUBMITED) and beaked shrimp, but do to there abundence and quick growth they havent went exstinct yet. they slowly swim in schools of 40 to 200 individuals cleaning large areas of sea from almost all microbial life.
there exsist a sister speacies that reaches the lenght of 30 m called the leviatan’s net, it lives in the darkest deeps of the ocean, sustaining of marine snow and small lifeforms, there one of the rearest animals found in the Arch Ocean and the one clossest to exstinction.

Anatomy

Yellow: nervuous
Violet: reproductive
Blue: gills
Orange: filtering nets

they are one of few spicies with internal skieleton and vertebrae in the Arch Ocean. there filtering nets only let thru watter, there gills, beside colecting oxsygen, release digestive fluids.

name: vermis comedenti (eater worm)

the ring thingy there is a colony

Summary

these tiny but bity fellas have mouths full of acidic acid, which they use whenever an unsuspecting creature such as a green photojelly, angel shrimp, or any other animal lifeform passes (or most likely gets enclosed in) the hole in the ring. The eater worms will then swim out at their ludicrous speed to eat their prey and usually share what they themselves dont eat with other citizens of the colony.

the colonies themselves are kind of like donut shells made out of dead eater worms, they are propulsed through the ocean with the worms inside swimming at the walls. When 2 colonies meet, they usually collaborate to make a new bigger one to house both parties, assuming they have enough corpses that is.

they dont have sex, instead the females naturaly produce eggs every month starting in the 6th and ending in the 20th, they procreate via having the male eat the female, the eggs will then hatch inside the male and the children will feed on his insides. That being said, the female can easily stop herself from being eaten in the first place via horns which she can pop out whenever for easier voring, altough they dont grow back.

species name: rostratis caris (beaked shrimp/devil spawn)
lenght: males: 40/60 cm femails: 60/100 cm
diet: netter, gazefish, imateur angel shrimps and fev other small species
habitat: Sub-tropical seas and shallow waters

Description

beaked shrimps are pack hunters, they swimm in groops of 3 to 12 individuals with one femail and the rest beaing male. they can reach the maxsimum speed of 65 km/h. they have evolved jaws out of there middle mouth apendage, giving theme the ability to consume pray with hard skieletons. there left and right mouth apendage became more sickle like and much sharper, there used by beaked shrimps to slash and hold there pray to there mouth while consuming it.
female beaked shrimps posess organs named “torches” on top of there horns, thes glowing organs are capeble of quickly changing colors, they are used for giving orders to the rest of the pack.
when a new pack is formed, or the femail dies the bigest male becomes a female and leads the rest.
unlike most of the caris family, the femails carry there eggs sticked under there back swimming lobes.
beaked shrimps often wait for there pray in hidden in Devil’s Heart algie, when hunting a larger animal, the female first strikes, but than stays in the back untill there pray is dead.
some of the beaked shrimp packs follow Devill Monarchs (female Brechers)[SHRIMP SPECIES THAT IM WORKING ON] allowing theme to take down the largest and most dangerous animals of the Arch Ocean, this is where there second name comes from, the devil spawn.

Anatomy

yellow: nervous
violet: reproductive
orange: digestive
blue: respiratory

there mouth are filled with small sharped pices of chitine pointing inside, they tear up food that comes thru. do to eating things much harder to digest than jellyfish, there digestive system has elongated and started to produce much more powerfull digestive flulids.
there brains have becomed more complex, allowing for strategic planing, and cordinating as a pack.

Name: Pisces venandi- fish hunter
Size: 1-3 meters (female: 1-2.7/ male: 1.5-3)
Top speed: 210 km/hr
Diet: Anything that is between 10cm - 1m, preferably colonies of vermis comedenti and various shrimps.
Habitat: various subspecies can live any where from deep sea caves to tropical water.

Pisces venandi spends almost all its day hunting for food. It’s eyes are also technically it’s”brain”. The stomach tells the brain it is hungry and cave fish begins hunting. Their favorite food is vermis comedenti colonies.Their fins are extremely strong. It is very high on the food chain because near all its vital organs are poisonous frills, similar to feathered nightmare’s. Also immune to this poison。Pisces venandi reproduce sexually and are not mates for life. Mate every 1-5 Ludus years. Generally solitary creatures but may form hunting packs of 2-4 for larger prey. They are very efficient species but extremely primitive.
