Lighting changes poll

What Rathalos said, I very much agree with; total darkness can be implemented once we get to macroscopic considering microbial and simple multicellular life forms don’t use eyes to see things but rather receptors for compounds. So a microbe living in a tidepool would see just as well in the depths of the Atlantic.

I suppose we are using kind of a hybrid approach considering I do recall a concept posted in the dev forum about making the microbe stage experience even more microbe like (which I think mainly focused on vastly changing the way the visuals are like?)

It’s probably too late to change much about the microbe stage and most people are probably itching to dive into the multicellular stage so that by the end of next year we’ll be able to see macroscopic stuff.

Obviously. An overhaul is likely only ever happening after we’re done with the evolution stages at least.

I basically agree that there should be some more dynamicness with the lighting, and that colors should become hotter or colder relative to the light-level and the biome in question. While I am fine with the new light-level, I would not mind it becoming slightly less bright, either. Maybe a dark mode could be a togglable option?

I suppose so but with how multicellular is going to drain a lot of work I can imagine such a change could take a while to manifest.

Also it seems like the developers see the β€œold dark” version of the deep biomes as a bug mostly and not something to be β€œproud of” ig?

Well, it factually is a bug. Exported game ended up with some unintended alterations of what was designed in the development version.

On the other hand as has been seen some seem to actually prefer the bugged version…
