In one of the dev posts (I can’t remember which one) it was suggested 2 asexual and 2 sexual.
I see. What are your bets on the three left-to-be-implemented then?
For asexual, I would guess either Fragmentation or Spores. For sexual, I would guess 1 based on animals and 1 based on plants, with fungal based reproduction happening later.
I suppose spores would need the mucocyst?
flowering plants do haploid budding, then have their offspring either stay in the flower and get its egg fertilized by the sperm from a pollen, or get moved by any variety of things to another flower, to transfer two sperm to the egg plant, which then grows into the seed after fertilization
in moss though, it’s a lot weirder
and pollen can live for so long because it’s a whole multicellular plant, rather than just plant sperm
Would one play as pollen if they evolved such reproductive “caste”?
depends on if they made it playable
same as with the egg caste
Is pollen really the same thing as an egg though?
it’s the same type of organism
they’re both haploid offspring that have the sole purpose of meeting and mating, one just also has the purpose of growing into a new diploid(or sometimes triploid or tetraploid, depending on how many sets of chromosomes the egg and sperm had) plant
Isn’t pollen more of a gamete than an egg though? Since it releases gametes and it not a gamete in itself.
the egg one contains an egg, it itself isn’t the egg, i just don’t remember the name of it rn
Also, I recall there are certain fungi with an absurb amount of genetic genders. Like in the hundreds.
sexes, and each one can reproduce with any of them except its own, so when explaining fungi the gametes are just referred to as + and -
and the gametes are also just regular fungi that are haploid and can’t make fruiting bodies
I don’t think we’re getting something like that in Thrive anytime soon…
implementing it could be as easy as making the stuff for fungi to exist, and making it possible to have haploid offspring through asexual reproduction, that then use sexual reproduction to produce diploid offspring
and having your gametes compete with you for the same niche would make them be held to higher standards, which means slightly less genetic diversity, but little to no chance of offspring that can’t compete for the niche you occupy
How much stuff would that be?
idk, but iirc it’s already planned
probably still gonna be hard tho
In what way is it planned? There’s no roadmap for multicell yet.
isn’t most commonly found life planned to be possible to recreate?
I suppose it is, bu that does not mean EVERY lifeform will be recreatable one to one ingame.
