My Ubuntu PC had a kernel panic yesterday, so I had to load an older kernel. I suppose that the PC just doesnโt like Ubuntu because it had a few other problems with Ubuntu before such as not being able to do sudo apt update. So I backed up my data and then went to Linux Mint. Unfortunately, it seems there is yet another problem. Password works for login and terminal authentication, but not for GUI authentication. It might be a good thing to familiarize myself with the terminal, but I feel like this is a warning from the future telling me that this PC model isnโt meant to run on Mint either.
EDIT: Iโve just read that this PC model is very compatible with both Ubuntu and Mint. What the ! Perhaps my USB boot drives for Ubuntu and Mint had some corrupt files?

This is 0% a your PC problem. You did something wrong, or perhaps timed your install to perfectly allign with someone else messing up and giving you corrupt packages, or something, but not your pc.
if apt update fails that indicates your package database is corrupt, if the password works for terminal but not gui, that could be many things, but maybe a messed up keyring or something? I recommend reinstalling.
FIGURED IT OUT!!! toaruOS (a relatively mature hobbiest OS) has a compositor called yutani, because itโs dev saw the connection and thought it would be funny. i just forgot about toaruOS because its obscure and useless, but i remembered the connection
