Then his brain finally shut down due to the fact that he was being eaten.

It caused him to float in the air for multiple seconds.
The xenous’s nerve nets expanded, and the beginnings of an eye and brain formed
Soon after, xenous climbed the food chain and the xenous evolved rudimentary social behavior like schools of fish.
