In the fairly murky, hot freshwater you dig a small pit at the bottom of the riverbed and sit in it. You extend your lure and wait. You and wait and wait. The tan-colours bivalves sticking tentacles out of their shells are rooted to the spot [Compcylindricus sous]. Nothing happens to come your way yet. So you are not able to feed. Now, though, you are starving. The freshwater remains quite murky and hot. A gentle current is flowing along. Downriver, there are the Compcylindricus sous. To the side of a rock in the middle of the river, upstream, laying on the riverbed beneath the fairly murky water between the bank and the rock is a blue animal with a chitin shield on itâs back and surrounded by an Anamolcaris-like lobe. Antennae and thick mandibles protrude from the front - it has four tiny eyes, two of them on stalks. At the rear end is a fantail and a hyponome [Dorsopelta positivus, PositiveTower]. Further upriver but not visible in the murk is a Caulops vulgarus, detectable by itâs chemicals. (2 + 1)

A predatory ambush hunter that lures prey in with a lure that resembles algae, Haleglossus name lives throughout the tropical ocean, Olympia, Delphi, Aeaea and Tartarus. In the opposite vein to itâs predecessor it produces more eggs than many other species on the planet; it can produce 10,000 eggs each spawning when they gather at mating sites in Early Spring. However, it seems to have lost the part of itâs brain that allows for spatial awareness. It lives alongside another Haleglossus species on Tartarus; it has more fatalities due to being smelt easier by predators but produces more young to counter this.

A unique lure made of mostly muscle can be retracted into the base of the mouth - it has a green lure covered in tiny hooks at the end and a scent gland. It has two eyes (camera eyes with calcite lenses that change shape and that have no blind spot) either side of the head. Behind these on each side is a (typical apposition) compound eye. At the bottom of the river of quite murky, hot freshwater you stay quite still and simply rest. You are able to recover a lot of energy without being disturbed when you have finished resting. Now, though, you are starving. The freshwater remains quite murky and hot. A gentle current is flowing along. Downriver, you see a blurry animal laying on the riverbed which your scents show to be a Haleglossus beveria [an ambush hyperarthropod], when you look to the side of a rock in the middle of the river. Thereâs a rocky bank to one side of you, and you can see a small blur walking along the top of the bank [Ambulanus terrestrium, Deathwake]. There is another one of these on top of the rock, above the water level, in the middle of the river. From upriver there is another small blur and the scents emanating from it show it to be a Caulops vulgarus [herbivorous hyperarthropod]. This species is also a freshwater predator but has powerful mandibles capable of penetrating the calcium carbonate shells of bivalves (and molluscs if there were any in freshwater). The half-exoskeleton bearing animal also has a greater number of smaller lobes comprising itâs two big ones, meaning extra manoeuvrability. Perhaps due to itâs murky habitats, it has got much smaller eyes and lost itâs compound eyes completely, making itâs eyesight worse although it now has a pair of long antennae with touch receptors on. Another change is the increase in size.

In the hot, humid air, dripping with drizzle, you continue to feed on the algal-strewn rock along the banks of the gently moving, fairly murky river. You are so successful at this that you survive for long enough to become an adult, ready to reproduce. You havenât taken in water in a while and are now dehydrated. You remain next to the fairly murky, gentle river, along which mats of algae are growing. You see a green animal with a strong, pill bug-like exoskeleton that ends in a fan tail, grazing on a rock in the middle of the river. It has a head with mandibles and two pairs of eyes (camera in front of compound) as well as a pair of clawed chelipeds followed by four pairs of paddle-lined legs [Ambulanus terrestrium]. However, laying on the riverbed beneath the fairly murky water between the bank and the rock is a blue animal with a chitin shield on itâs back and surrounded by an Anamolcaris-like lobe. You follow the scent of something through fairly murky water that has become cool recently. There is a green animal with a strong, pill bug-like exoskeleton that ends in a fan tail, lifeless on the riverbed. It has a head with mandibles and two pairs of eyes (camera in front of compound), with the first pair on stalks, as well as a pair of clawed chelipeds followed by four pairs of paddle-lined legs [Gryphorhinus atroboceanus]. You take a bite but it is long dead and the bacteria that has taken a hold is unpalatable so you regurgitate the dead food back out. You are still exhausted. There is another Gryphorhinus feeding on some algae. There are several of a tubular, blue animal with a jellyfish dome at one end which has little tentacles sticking out the top and lines of cillia along the body, floating along the water [Masticephalus recentibus]. There is another animal like the Gryphorhinus, only this one is blue, does not have stalked eyes and has only three pairs of legs but it does wield a pair of stingers next to itâs claws and has a pouch underneath [Saccentus marsupium]. The Northwestern Coastal Shallows of Kommos, Temperate Shallows, Early Summer
In the fairly murky, warm, quite highly saline water, you row all they way down through the water towards the blur attached to a rock on the seafloor because at this size the water is too thick for you to sink in. You are exhausted by this and need to rest. Just as you settle and attach your holdfast there is a tremendous crash as boulders smash into the sea at the foot of a nearby cliff. The debris clouds the water and the force whisks you away, traveling away through the water. Eventually, the debris in the water settles and it returns to itâs natural fairly murky state. It is also still warm and quite highly saline. When you look around, you are not far above a large rock in a sandy plain, drifting slowly on a current, as a blurry shape passes over head, which your chemoreception finds is an Anazitonta astatheana. There is another blur in front of you directly over the rock which you sense is a Organia acrodon [predstory fish, OoferDoofer]. On the rock is one stationary blur, sensed as a Rhipiella temperatus [soft coral], buzzed by a few mobile blurs, which have chemical like Eolamnella simplex [predatory proto-fish]. You can sense a fair amount of marine snow, particularly around the rock. (2)

Medusodera pennicoronus

This species appears a bit like a crinoid. It has a crown of arms covered in feather-like pinnules which are lined with tube feet, which makes it a good filter-feeder. A hard theca protects the head and the body has an endoskeleton of ossicles. It retains the swimming adaptations like the jellyfish-bell below the theca and the lines of cilia on membranes along the body. This is despite having a root-like holdfast, which it can use to attach itself to sediment. It lives throughout the upper 500m of the northern hemisphere temperate Uteenessa ocean.

External Features: The cylindrical body with a jelly-filled dome has yellow skin. There is an endoskeleton of ossicles and they are arranged in plates in a up around the front called a theca. At the front are arms lined with feather-like pinnules lined with tube feet, followed by the circular mouth and chemoreceptors. It has teeth in itâs mouth. There are six pairs of gill slits. Along the body are four membranes with lines of cilia on them. On the ventral side of the body is a pinhole eye. At the bottom is a root-like holdfast.
Internal Features: Each cell contains lysozymes and piezolytes. A water vascular system carries water from the tube feet to the main canals that radiate from the central canal around the mouth, and also from the madroporite. The body has a hemacoel and a few small blood vessels from the gills. The blood is violet because it contains hemerythrin. Anti-freeze threitol sugar alcohol flows around the body. It has a gonads. It has muscles across the body. It has a monogastric digestive system. From the ganglia in head is a single, ventral nerve cord with nerves running off with a nearby notochord.
