Tectonic activity carries on, causing the volcanoes at mid-ocean ridges to pump megatonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The global temperature has stabilised at 30c. The climate is now mostly tropical and subtropical, as temperate zones have been pushed into the polar zones. Because of the heat, the oceans are highly stratified and water below the thermocline is hypoxic. Ocean downwelling occurs now at the equator, and at much less frequency.
Entaops parvus now shares the filter-feeding niche, while Platyodes becomes the only structureless sponge in this area, with its flat wide body. Neocorallus primus, with its extra tentacles and abilities, has driven its predecessor, Scleracludus extinct and taken over the role of stony coral while Pholgnathus has driven its arthropod ancestor, Cerceps, out of these waters. These all exist the the southern temperate ocean. Scutoskulus is a slower worm than Ahyponomus but it’s protective scutes carve out a unique niche whilst Chonifiltrus shrutii is a sponge that is very successful. These are in the tropics.
In other animal news, Lepidoderes carvus has evolved in the northern temperate ocean, but is already struggling. The scales in its head never grow in and it has no toxin to make up for this weakness.
The volcano violently explodes out the weakest point, sending out a shockwave of noise for miles around. The magma chamber collapses. Exposed magma creates a light, shining in the dark polar sea. A plume of ash bursts through the water and reaches into the sky and hot rocks shower the surroundings. The water around it is boiled. Ash then settles on the surrounding area, causing a choking hazard. The magma cools into peculiar bubble-like rocks and the volcano grows taller.

You swim down towards the muddy bottom to rest but before you can, what you thought was part of the ground comes alive. The Sclerocephalus lashes out and you are forced to swim away, preventing you from resting. You are now exhuasted. You cannot see very far because of the murk but you can see the muddy bottom, from which lawns of algae are growing. The heads of Arencolus peering out of their burrows in the mud dot the floor. The chemicals of a Pultrypa drifts in from the murkiness. (2 + 1)

This species has become marine, occupying the tropics around the Uteenessa Ocean. It can only hunt soft-bodied creatures because it has rather blunt and weak pincers. It can also graze. When reproducing, they return to certain sites in estuaries based in the tropics across both Olympia and Tartarus. This is thanks to their ability to remember long-term events.

The exoskeleton sports ten pairs of legs; the first are chelipeds which end in long, serrated pincers (chela), the next four are lined with paddles and used for walking and the final five are smaller, forked (biramous) swimmerets, also with paddles. The exoskeleton ends in a fan tail, and below this is a hyponome.
Internal Features: Spiracles at the edge of the body draw in water past gill-like structures. This is a predatory proto-fish that lives in the Temperate Ocean of the Southern Hemisphere. It’s black, has bioluminescent spots all over it and sharp fangs. It mostly preys on Elinopterus. The hatchlings have no scales. In this species, the scales never grow in on the head and it remains soft their entire lives, providing a target for prey like Cerceps cerceps. They also have no toxin glands, unlike their relatives, which reduces the energy need but with less armour, this combination has lead to this species being not very successful.

The fairly murky water is warm and below you see the seabed, which is also fairly rocky. Above you a short way is the surface. You sense your shoal around you. There are a couple of Anazitonta Anazitonta swimming about here but also an Anazitonta astatheana. There is a cliff behind you, and a large, submerged cave in its side. On the other side, the water starts getting deeper, but there is a rocky plateau here. (5)

The tremor shakes the water and you swim hurriedly, feeling for some shelter in the dark. You find a hard surface and move along it until you find a crevice and hide inside. The tremors continue. You can feel the water temperature rising suddenly, and then a stream of magma casts an eerie glow in the darkness. Trapped in the crevice, you are boiled to death. (4 = You have not thrived. You will be reborn, as your species goes on.)

A small proto-fish, this species has different types of scale to its predecessor; instead of being brittle yet heavy, they are flexible and light; instead of covering just the tail, the scales go up to where the head begins. The scales can even be shed when attacked to distract or lose an enemy and are quickly regrown. Interestingly, the hatchlings are born without scales and are developed when the reach the juvenile stage.

You rest where you are at the bottom of the tropical lagoon. Your rest is undisturbed and you recover quite a bit of energy. You then proceed to head to where several Pultrypa are gathering in the shallows of the lagoon. You head towards one of the Pultrypa without blue stripes on their legs and reproduce successfully. You are still in the shallows of the lagoon with several other Pultrypa. A beach lies on one side and the rest of the clear, hot lagoon on the other. You see some Protichthys feeding on seaweed further out in the lagoon. (4 + 1 = Congratulations, it’s a baby! Choose 4 mutations to evolve or just reproduce and get a bonus roll on your next evolution.)

An arthropod with complicated appendages that is the top of the food chain in the tropical seas and oceans, as well as tropical estuaries around the world. They approach their prey before launching a wound-up arm at their victim and slicing it to death. The complication is that it has legs for walking but can fold them up so that the paddles form a lobe-like structure, such as in an Anomlaocaris. They employ two tones of colour to camouflage when seen from above or below but adult males will develop stripes of blue on their legs.

Around the mouth are a few chemoreceptors. On either side of the head is a camera eye with calcite lens that changes shape and has no blind spot and a typical apposition compound eye, which both contain blue and green cone cells. Not including the chelipeds, it has four pairs of normal legs, one to a segment, that have a large paddle on the outer side. When swimming, these are folded in to give the effect of a continuous lobe halfway along the body. Behind that is five pairs of biramous, paddle-lined swimmerets, one to a segment. The rear of the body has a fan tail and below that a hyponome. Males in the mating season have a series of blue stripes on their limbs, unique to the species.

Blood vessels travel past every cell, carrying blue blood caused by hemocyanin, and the single circuit has a two-chambered heart. An anti-freeze xylomannan fatty acid and polysaccharide is in the blood. The body is supported by a system of muscles. It has a sex-appropriate gonad and a large protonephridium. You begin to filter the water with your siphon, suspended close to the surface, when you spot a Hastella barrelling towards you, beak first. You row as quickly as you can with your rows of thousands of cilia away from it but it’s not long before you feel the nip of its beak on your retreating side. Then the pressure changes and you see a Pseudoichthys carrying away the Hastella in its jaws. You are safe but now exhausted and slightly injured. You are still in the lagoon, where it is clear and hot. You see a few Setomedusus and Elephazous filtering the upper water and the Pseudoichthys has eaten its quarry. Below, some Protichthys are feeding on algae and another Hastella snakes its way around. In the shallows, several Pultrypa have gathered. In the other direction, is the opening to the rest of the sea. (1)

Whoops, sorry for the late reply. 
Action: Follow the scent of the Elinopterus and watch it. If it’s not watching or distracted attack and eat it. If I find the Attenbora first attack it instead, it’s big but not a threat to me directly. If I find the Polyphemusia avoid it, no need to start any fights at such a small size, I can find alternate routes to follow the scent of my prey.

Tectonic activity carries on, causing the volcanoes at mid-ocean ridges to pump megatonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The global temperature has stabilised at 30c. The climate is now mostly tropical and subtropical, as temperate zones have been pushed into the polar zones. Because of the heat, the oceans are highly stratified and water below the thermocline is hypoxic. Ocean downwelling occurs now at the equator, and at much less frequency.
Lepidoderes carvus cannot compete without both its scales and toxi; its numbers are declining rapidly. This species is on the edge of extinction with only a few individuals left.
In the Northern Hemisphere, two new species have appeared. One is Elinopterus agentia, which is a little smaller and has better Chemoreception than Elinopterus borealus. The other is Loboblastus setocrestus, perhaps the first animal to be called an Eztan echinoderm, as it has all the features that Earth Echinodermus have, although with a little extra. It most resembles a blastoid, and moves irregularly to feeding spots where it gathers in food with its cirri.

Suddenly, you are caught in a wave which carries you forward and you end up put onto pebbles in fresh air. Fortunately, the water is very close and you walk back in but you are therefore not able to rest. You are even closer to exhaustion. Back in the brackish water, it’s murky and hot. The tide is heading inland and the water level is rising. Behind you, is the pebbly shore leading to a rocky landscape. In the water, you see the muddy bottom, blanketed in algae, but not very far because of the lack of clarity. Past this point comes the chemicals of a Pultrypa.

You end up with a chunk of meat and scoff it down. Several months pass after this event. You continue to feed relatively uneventfully, growing all the while. The sunlit, warm summer arrives and you survive much of this. You are now a juvenile. You are no longer helpless in currents. Below you, the sand stretches out over a slight slope for as far as you can see. In one direction, a cliff raises the seabed sharply upwards towards the surface, while in the other it becomes progressively deeper. You can see an Elinopterus hunting Masticephalus near the surface, but a jellyfish is also trailing the surface. (5 + 1)

This is a predatory proto-fish that lives in the Temperate Ocean of the Southern Hemisphere. It’s black, has bioluminescent spots all over it and sharp fangs. It mostly preys on Elinopterus. The hatchlings have no scales. In this species, the scales never grow in on the head and it remains soft their entire lives, providing a target for prey like Cerceps cerceps. They also have no toxin glands, unlike their relatives, which reduces the energy need but with less armour, this combination has lead to this species being not very successful.

You turn away at the last moment but this makes you vulnerable - the Anazitonta astatheana bites you on the side as you turn, leaving a gaping wound. The rest of your shoal flees as you lay paralysed by your injury in the water. The Anazitonta closes the gap again and delivers a finishing blow. (2 = You have not thrived. A small proto-fish, this species has different types of scale to its predecessor; instead of being brittle yet heavy, they are flexible and light; instead of covering just the tail, the scales go up to where the head begins. Interestingly, the hatchlings are born without scales and are developed when the reach the juvenile stage.

An arthropod with complicated appendages that is the top of the food chain in the tropical seas and oceans, as well as tropical estuaries around the world. They approach their prey before launching a wound-up arm at their victim and slicing it to death. The complication is that it has legs for walking but can fold them up so that the paddles form a lobe-like structure, such as in an Anomlaocaris. They employ two tones of colour to camouflage when seen from above or below but adult males will develop stripes of blue on their legs.

You are safe but now even more exhausted and slightly injured. You are still in the lagoon, where it is clear and hot. You see a few Setomedusus and Elephazous filtering the upper water. Below, some Protichthys are feeding on algae and another Hastella snakes its way around. In the shallows, several Pultrypa have gathered. In the other direction, is the opening to the rest of the sea. (3)

Dolichostoma has a peculiar mouth which has a long, trunk-like siphon. The siphon contracts its muscles to draw water, and with it food, into the mouth. Cirri on the end of the siphon further help to draw food in.

You swim towards the Cilistoma on the riverbed and getting right up to it, you bite down with your jaws on the shell but you cannot penetrate it. You cannot do anything against it and find no weakness in the shell, which encloses the whole animal. You have no choice but to give up and you are now exhausted. The water is warm and quite murky. In either direction, the river bends. On this stretch, you see Cilistoma and Gempliaori on the gritty floor and Masticephalus floating along the current. An Organia fish is eating scraps of algae off the floor and there is also a Saccenta. (5)

External Features: Iridiphore pigments give the chitin exoskeleton with many plates covering the cylindrical body a metallic, blue sheen. This covers the skin. The mouth has a pair of mandibles (chelicera) and also has nearby chemoreceptors. On the side of the head are a pair of lens eyes and behind them a pair of compound eyes. The exoskeleton has flexible flaps that overlap each other to create a whole lobe on the side and ends in a fan tail. Below this is a hyponome.
