Its a dead zone (but with O2) all the animals died and the organics got carried into the ocean. ok wait u can go up the river it is in the aquator where the temp is above 0
well as the surface ocean begins to freeze over light levels in the water below it start to drop rapidly making photsynthisis harder killing off the plants. this then sends a ripple through the entire ecosystem reducing the total energy levels available and making surviving in such an area exclusively near impossible for most animals.
um… i guess i want to migrate to the tropics, and then evolve lungs
