Well, mechanically, global glaciation lowers temperature and adds ice to all the surface patches. Similarly, you could remove ice and increase temperature for ice sheet patches. But then you’re left with something called an ice sheet that has no ice.
I guess the easiest way to do it would be to make patch names changeable by the conditions (or events)

No, the banana biome just replaces a coastal patch and that never changes in the same game.

That’s a good question. Is a “temporary name change” (that does not change other factors like terrain or currents) possibly an option? Even if it effects all patches of that name, it could be a good work around.
We would probably need to first try implementing it (assuming no similar thing was attempted before) to see what sort of problems it’d cause
I think it’s about the same difficulty as actually supporting patches changing type dynamically.
