If the rocks get burried, how much time must last before they “die”?

they don’t, but they also can’t turn all the sandstone in an entire desert to sand, so they just stay ‘frozen’ until they’re uncovered

By the way, will the larger rocks suffer from abrasion?

no, since otherwise they wouldn’t grow, and they’re more likely to get dented than scratched

oh but getting up to a temperature where you glow does mean you absorb light with your entire volume, since it’s being produced via your entire volume from heat
