Good observation
Although I don’t think the devs have already come to a conclusion, one of the plans is to start without mitochondria or flagella and force the player to acquire them (the mitochondrion through endosymbiosis like the chloroplast, and the flagella through a sort of “skill tree”-esque mutation system, where you can also unlock things like the pili)
