I think [asabiyyah](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asabiyyah) should be represented in the game, maybe even at the awakening stage (since it basically corelated to hunter gatherer nomadic tribes more or less).
Maybe via a slider (like UV and oxygen tolerance) that you later lose and it turns into a resource? It is a fairly critical idea in sociology if I’m not mistaken after all.

So having more cohesion would lead to bigger groups and less would make smaller groups?

Would this be related to the proposed “Gregariousness” behavior for Microbe?

If so, the stat could be present through the entire game perhaps?

</div>

sounds even better if I’m being honest, maybe even needing it to be higher than some amount like 65% for a few generations is required to reach the society stage.
still think the idea that you would lose the slider in the society stage is good, having it become a resource you need to manage, as in the unity of your tribe/society, almost a “stability” resource.

Does it become a resource the moment you enter society or when the rural and the urban have moved too far apart?

</div>

I think the moment you enter society is better, small settlements and even tribes also have this value, so technically it should be in the awakening stage, but there is no wiggle room as a tribe for low cohesion, thus is is redundant to represent it in the earlier stages (as anything other than how many individuals stay together) since lowering it would lead -every time- to the demise of the tribe.

</div>

How would it work for eusocial species? Would it rather represent the relations between individual hives?

<div class="post-metadata">

</div>

eusocial species are basically an example of a species that has the slider on max, every single one of them that knows the others works with them.
Of course things would change if ants, for example, reached sapience.

</div>

Obviously. Would the capability of a species to travel impact the asabiyyah, so the more it can travel the more interconnected communities are?

</div>

asabiyyah is meant to represent that unity of a single community, such as a tribe, city or nation. But the idea of a species wide asabiyyah sounds really good as well, and their ability to move in addition to how much they move would definitely affect that.

I suppose moving people would make a much larger impact than moving just information?

</div>

most likely, but maybe the effect that moving of people has on species wide asabiyyah would be replaced by the movement of information as communities settle? So maybe even equal effect, and it just becomes more logical to use one over the other in accordance to circumstances? basically emergent behavior, which is the coolest behavior.

</div>

by that point the effect of movement would be insignificant with instant movement of information, but maybe in the space stage movement would become relevant again? since it would take years for information to move across space systems, maybe until the species discovers instant communications, probably via some quantum entanglement shenanigans.

Scifi with ftl is supposed to be the default so maybe prior to that being discovered communication with people could become a bit more important again?

having the ability to not allow ftl would be interesting, didn’t think about it, and it would most definitely make it relevant again.
