Stable Games Workshopping

This is a bit of a meta post.

Here you can discuss and design forum games that are resistant to dying out in slow or inactive forum environments, or over long periods of time.

Forum games could be anything from a reimagined classic roleplay topic to a more society focused type, like a remake of Mafia-Murder.

Here are some guidelines you might follow for making a stable one:

  1. A game could have no leader. The story should be able to be pushed along by anybody without one person having a special, irreplaceable role. This doesn’t mean the starting topic can’t set up a permanent situation, but the original poster should not have to come back later and maintain the game, and might also be allowed to join as a participant.
  2. A game could be fun to contribute to, without ever coming back and looking again. This makes it more open to people adding on, without the risk of missing out as badly if they do not return. You could do this by making additions creative in themselves, without needing feedback.
  3. A game could be adaptive. If a whole new set of people are playing, they might want to change how the game works.
  4. A game could be voted on. Original members could vote on which things get changed or replaced in the game by liking certain posts, and could also decide which new members also get this voting permission. This sets up a rules government.
  5. A game could be revivable. If your forum game is long dead, someone later might want to start it up again. You could plan for this in your rules.

Those are some guidelines you could keep in mind when thinking up game ideas, but feel free to make your own.

We already have a thread for the FG part of this thread:

Yeah, don’t think this thread is needed. But suppose it is a good idea to make if you hadn’t seen the other thread!

With the knowledge of the other thread around here now though I suppose it could still be used for this:

(did they mean to say “fames” here like as in your reputation or is it a typo?)

Pretty sure that’s just a misspelling lol

Oh, I thought they really meant something regarding the fame of yours in the forum

  1. Fames v Games: that was totally a typo, i wrote this on phone, thanks for letting me know
  2. Dupe: it is a bit different (this one is specifically for making new ideas while the other is for discussing current topics) but i have changed it so it is now even more distinct

Seems better now. Don’t expect much activity here though.

thats alright, hopefully the forum gets more active in general now with the (only major) update

this topic in particular is because the forum is inactive, if we had a super lively one games do not need to be shelf-stable

I think we may need to wait longer for a major wave of popularity to appear
