The D&D thread

how do we do that? most people will be quite clueless until you share a bit more info on DnD in general

Ye, it’s prolly best to assume that someone has never played DND before when explaining.

For example, when I was trying to decide on a character, there was a whole bunch of stuff on skill proficiencies and classes and saving throws and whatnot that I have little to no idea what mean, and I couldn’t find a clear answer

yes.
there alot of versons of D&D.
u can also consider mine as D&D
what the limit of ur D&D stuff?

Alright imma just stick with 4th or 5th edition.

What is the idea for the character? There may be a race that fits what you want pretty well. If not then I think we can work something out.

Well first thing you would probably want to do is roll stats. You have two choices for this, point buy and to actually just roll your stats.

Rolling your stats is where you roll 4d6’s and pick the highest 3, repeat this 7 times and you have your stats. Place every number but one in one of the large boxes that say “Str Con Dex Wis Int Cha” these numbers determine your stats will change when you pick your race and class, so we’ll do that next. First, pick a race you like and do what it says to do with your character in the race description. Eg, if you race says to add 2 to dex, then go to the box marked as dex and add two to the number you put in there. After that you need to pick a class. This is where the

whole bunch of stuff on skill proficiencies and classes and saving throws and whatnot
[/quotth
Comes into play, first, pick a class. I’m not going to list all of them but the most common two classes picked are either the wizard or fighter so I will be using those as examples. First thing after picking your class is to look at the proficiencys. Now, the lines next to all your proficiencys and the bubble under your main stats is unfilled. In the bubble under your stats, add 1 for every 2 above ten that stat is. These are your modifiers, they will add that number to rolls corresponding to the stat. In the proficiencys section you will see letters corosponding with your stats next to each proficiency title, write the modifier of the corosponding stat in each white space. Back to classes. Where is says what proficiencys you gain, find those proficiencys on your sheet and bubble in the circle next to them. For any proficiencys not listed, write them down in the languages and proficiencys section. Eg. martial weapons, shields, and armor. Then we get into spells and classes. If you are a magic wielding character then you will probably have to use spells. First find out how many spell slots you have then find out how many spells you should know and of what level. I can tell you right now that no one here should know a ninth level spell. For classes you have to go through and find out what level you are and what level you need to be, my suggestion, just take a level 1 character and level it up to level five, following the guide in that classes section. Since we’re starting at level 5 it is going to be a little more complicated when you get to the last level, but I’m confident that you can figure it out. Now for a backstory. Each class has a set of possible backgrounds that you can pick for them they say what backgrounds that you can pick in that section. Now in that backgrounds section you have several choices of your characters traits but you must pick one of each section of trait, there is I believe the traits, characteristics, and flaws. You can pick more but you must pick one in every section for every new trait you want, so you will end up with 3, 6, 9, etc… Great, now that your character sheet is mostly done let’s talk about equipment. Each of your classes has different options for equipment. Pick one they say what they are. Now, about magic items… You can have 2 low level magic items. Just @ me about what ones I’ll let you keep or not, with a list of 5-6 items. You can also trade each magic items for +1 damage on a weapon you have if you think that would be better. FINALLY OMG I really hope I didn’t miss anything.

Well I’m willing to take a few homebrew magic items and monsters but no races or anything like that. And sadly yours is not D&D because it isn’t using the same ruleset as D&D. But yea it is a cool roleplaying rouge-like adventure.

My idea was something similar to a Simic Hybrid, or based off of that kind of idea

You see, I was looking at DND races and I spotted ‘custom lineage,’ which was an option that allows a fusion of races (ex half elf half orc or something, from what I understood). I thought that sounded interesting, and so I had an idea for a character that is quite…interesting.

Some kind of Dragonkin (likely Gem or Draconblood) with features of Yuan-Ti (fangs, maybe tail) and Simic Hybrid (wings, maybe tentacles and water breathing (due to an ability they have iirc) or tail), as well as a left arm which is Warforged.

I considered adding Firbolg and Reborn into the mix, but eventually decided against it

Now, I’m not expecting to get every single advantage from all these species when I make my character. For example, it wouldn’t make much sense for me to get the no need to breathe from the Warforged when I only have it’s left arm. But I thought that this combo was quite interesting

I’ll have to reread your text wall lol, but I think some stuff from the singular time I’ve played DnD is coming back to me now

emh… I used that link you sent and I got all my stat rolls above 10

What do you do with the last roll group? Just leave it?

Edit:

Just gonna put the rolls I got here, plus what modifiers that would mean (I think);

13(+1), 14(+2), 10(+0), 14(+2), 14(+2), 15(+2), 15(+2)

The one you don’t use is whatever one you don’t want to use. Most people make it the lowest but some people like to keep the lowest for the funny.

Yea that’s about average in my experience. It’s fine.

Oh one more thing I forgot to add, your class and con modifier determines your health. Your class gives you your hit dice and your con mod is added onto your roll for each level, with level one always being the maximum possible health for your class.

If I’m a dualwielder can I start with two swords?

As long as they aren’t weapons that require both hands sure. What are you thinking? Scimitar? Short sword?

I’m actually thinking on using two rapiers

Thoughts on my character Centarian? It would prolly take a little balancing to make it not OP but I think it would be an interesting way to use the current races

?
I don’t see your character sheet, what do you mean?

I didn’t make a sheet, but you asked about my race idea here when I discussed custom lineages;

And I responded here;

Edit; basically, it’s super complicated, but the way features would be decided would be mainly Dragonkin, with some Yuan-Ti, and then maybe some from Simic Hybrid or one from Warforged if it made sense

I think it’s more for having a reason for you to be a teifling orc than to turn your character into Frankensteins monster.

Ye but complication is fun lol

I’m thinking at most having one advantage from Simic , maybe one from Warforged, and one (maybe two?) from Yuan-Ti, while trying to balance by potentially removing some of the advantages a dragonkin would have? Basically I just like having an interesting character

Anyway I can work out logistics, I just wanted to see if you were cool with it

Is there a format for making custom lineages you can follow? If so just follow that and come back to me with the results so I can see how OP it is at level 1 against 4-8 goblins.

Idk I’ll check, if not I’ll do my best to balance and we can do the same type of check

Edit: @Centarian figured I’d update you. Custom Lineage differs from what I originally thought - it can be literally any hominid, but it doesn’t acquire racial skills. So for example, just because I’m dragonkin, doesn’t mean I have a breath weapon, because I’m custom lineage

The way custom lineage actually works is that I get a +2 in whichever of the six categories I want, plus either Darkvision or +1 in a proficiency of my choice, as well as a choice of one Feat, and that Feat can be any existing Feat that I want (as long as DM agrees, ofc), as well as knowing Common and a language of my choice

(I think I also am required to have 30 foot speed with Medium size, but I am going to double check that - I think I’m mixing up CL and Reborn)

Edit 2: I was correct about land speed, I can choose between medium and small

Great, so what does your character sheet look like so far?
