THE NEW Miscellaneous Talk That Doesn't Deserve A New Thread Thread Thread (Part 1)

Yeah, I was going to talk about it, but it was late at night. Do you think it could actually be alien life? And how long do you think it will take to get there?

Iโ€™m trying not to get my hopes up about anything, but itโ€™s still an exciting discovery as while itโ€™s not likely life would exist in Venus with itโ€™s conditions, the possibility still remains. The presence of phosphine promotes that potential, but itโ€™s possible that it may be there due to an unknown geological process, Venus is alot different from Earth afterall.

Also, I just now realized that the release date is still a month away and I misread it. This is awkward.

I heard about it too. I hope that it is a possibility to send a probe or a sort of explorer there and investigate locally.

Sending a probe to Venus, I believe, is very far off. I read somewhere that Venus is so hot that probes sent there would melt. also acid rain is a problem.

They would need an airborne explorer to make sure it doesnโ€™t melt down. Maybe some sort of balloon probe?

People already did. It stopped transmitting data before it reached the surface, though.

Edit: Some years later, some more probes were sent and one of them actually continued transmitting until around 1 hour after impact.

with the luck of the universe weโ€™ve studied so far, itโ€™s probably just the first
:pensive:

Oh. I thought they all melted before impact.

An important detail here is that if life exists on Venus, it is most likely in the form of microbes in the upper layers of the atmosphere, where the temperatures can reach 0-50C. This means that if we were to sent probes there theyโ€™d just have to fly around at that height, where you could easily add some zeppelin-like functionality to just float around without wasting energy.

@hhyyrylainen, how is my progression on the Devotee badge? Apparently, only admins can see thisโ€ฆ

I have no idea where I would see that, I can see the list of badges you have, but I canโ€™t see anywhere in the admin user profile page where I could see progress towards badges.

Edit: doing a bit of detective work, I can see that you got the Aficionado badge on July 11th (meaning that at that point you had visited 100 days). So the earliest (if you donโ€™t miss any days) you can get the devotee badge is: Friday, April 2, 2021 (if I got my input to wolframalpha right)

I played both progress update tracks at the same time by accident and it sounded pretty cool.

YES! Iโ€™ve completed the two Metro games that arenโ€™t on Steam anymore!

Sincerely, it is a good game, though the Redux version has less bugs or crashings. After finishing the game, I started tackling the DLCs and I began with the ones I hated the most on the Redux version, which are The Tower and Spider Lair. I hate the former for being extremely difficult. You know when some games have DLCs purely to show the combat gameplay? Well, itโ€™s just like in BioShock Infinite: Clash in the Clouds except that The Tower is not buggy, but ridiculously difficult whatever difficulty you choose. I hate the latter not because of its difficulty. In fact, itโ€™s not a matter of artistic appreciation, but rather of emotional disgust such as fear. Iโ€™m especially afraid of insects and bugs. Well, I donโ€™t really hate them, but some of them look veryโ€ฆ well, you know. The only bugs Iโ€™m not afraid of are ants. Unfortunately, that DLC is full of spiders and I was afraid until I got the flamethrower, which evaporated my fear.
I then continued with the faction pack DLCs such as Sniper Team (Commies faction), Heavy Squad (Reich faction) and Kshatriya (Sparta faction). Sniper Team was good for infiltration gameplay despite being the same, though it lacked a story. I remember that it was funny the first time I played it on the Redux version. I was nearly at the end, but I was afraid of being detected by the guards. So I waited a bit longer, and longer and longer until my gas mask filters were limited to 1 minute. I then discretely rushed to the end by going down some staircase. My timer was up and the character removed his gas mask. While suffocating slowly, I opened the door and got the final cutscene where your partner says, โ€œLetโ€™s go teach those Nazis a lesson theyโ€™ll never forget.โ€ While he was speaking, I was going to fall to my death by suffocation. โ€œNoooooooooooo (slowmotioned),โ€ I was saying till I saw my achievement popping up for finishing the level. Oof! That was quite a challenge! Should I have waited for one more second, I would have died and have to retry again. This time, I decided not to waste my time and everything was fine.
Heavy Squad was really just a bad B-Movie where you fight the Red Army as a Nazi Heavy Gunner. The last one was more intriguing as you had to collect artifacts from before WW3 and get some price from it. It lacked a story, but the collection gameplay gives some kind of satisfaction. However, I found it quite scary when I had to deal with librarians and they were scarier than in Metro 2033 because their path werenโ€™t scripted so they could spawn at any moment.
Then, there was the Chronicles DLCs pack, which included stories from the perspective of other characters than the protagonist (i.e. other than Artyom) such as Anna, Pavel and Ulman (or Khan when in the dream). The first explains a bit why Anna couldnโ€™t save Artyom from being captured at the beginning. The second one didnโ€™t really have a story, it was just Pavel escaping from some bandits, which weโ€™ve never heard about during the main campaign. The last one had more lore to Khanโ€™s past and fitted correctly with Khanโ€™s personality.
Finally, there was the Developer Pack, which includes Spider Lair and the Developer level. The Developer level includes a shooting range (with challenges), an arena (with challenges and combat spectating) and a museum with most 3D models of enemies, characters and others. There are also some paintings where some peopleโ€™s face are replaced with the developersโ€™.
Thatโ€™s it, thatโ€™s what my opinion is about the DLCs of Metro Last Light. Now, thereโ€™s only Metro Exodus to play for me.

lol, I almost reached Deusโ€™ usual post length

Is this to show time intervals (like in Spore)?

Hmm, I guess I misunderstood.

Why does the 0.5.1.1 release thread show that its last activity was 21 hours ago, even though there havent been any comments and the post hasnt been edited

There was a post that was deleted by the author, I deleted it very quickly after that.

I suppose I can share a sneak peek here as well:

How can some users be registered in late 2017, but the first actual thread appeared in march of 2018?

Because there was a test for this forum in 2017 after the bots attacked

Where did atrox go? If Iโ€™m blind and they said they were leaving the project somewhere on either of the forums let me know, but otherwise ???
