THE NEW Miscellaneous Talk That Doesn't Deserve A New Thread Thread Thread (Part 3)

You sure ocean worlds would be all good for life to inhabit? Or for us to colonize?

I wonder what other crazy events are out there in the universe?

The colonization of planets outside of our solar system likely won’t be a thing for a good 1000-2000 years.

Depends, if it’s too deep then there may be some problems but I don’t see any reason as to why an ocean planet with earth-like temperatures and atmosphere.

LHS1140b is likely much warmer than Earth, so I doubt that would be an issue. Although the thick atmosphere could create a run-away greenhouse effect and create a place too warm for life.

With our telescopes improving we might see new spectacular stuff in the years/decades to come.

Still probably no betelgeuse supernova in our lifetimes though

A problem for LHS 1140 b is that it’s bigger than Earth by a lot, meaning its oceans are very likely much much deeper.

Could they be deep enough that instead of an ocean floor the water turns into ice?

Yes. That’s a good possibility.

This is also another pretty good candidate, maybe an even better one.

Btw are the trappist system plants still considered as good candidates or did they go to trash after the reevaluation of red dwarf planet habitability?

I think they went to the dump, I could be wrong though.

Something interesting about LHS 1140 b is that it might be an eyeball planet if there’s ice on it. Although that’s if the greenhouse effect isn’t as strong as on earth, then it’d be a regular planet.

Would all the back side still be ice free though?

Yes because the average temp would be -7 C rather than -47 C

there needs to be a space between the ### and the text

For me the more I add the smaller the text becomes?

Hmm, that’s interesting.

Also, I jut realized you can use this to jump to the middle of a long post. VERY interesting.

And the largest possible still seems smaller than the largest possible with the [size=x] thing

Also, another thing. All of our known β€˜potentially habitable’ planets would be deadly to humans, our main criteria for habitability at the moment is β€œCan anything survive there?”. So a planet with a hot ocean surface with a high magnetic field and volcanic activity would still be considered more habitable for life than mars.

I am not sure there would be ANY β€œhabitable for humans” planet anywhere with such a criterium.

Would any β€œpotentially habitable” planets be habitable for plants?

Depends, if the two planets we mentioned before in this thread are indeed ocean planets then I’m sure some algae could survive there.

First life would need to emerge at all though
