uhh but theres no way they can live in geothermally active areas. you can’t have you cake and eat it too.
Well, guess we will have to have a creature specifically designed for the scenario for it to work, or just y’know, evolve to live on land, then evolve back later.
Thats the accepted scenario for underwater civs,
I WILL Find a way to unlock spacetravel while fully aquatic…LIFE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY
there already is ,if you could smellt tin you could get the harder to get ones basically.
Well, with the use of thermite, you could easily progress further technologicly, since it can burn underwater, at a tempature of 2200 degrees Celcius. Therefor, you could make metal tools and metal technology!
@OoferDoofer whats your stance on the matter, do you think space faring aquatic species could excist?
This conversation is becoming a cesspool of double and triple posts. PLEASE edit your posts instead of posting twice or three times in a row.
I am, as of now, still on the side of impossible, considering all of the factors that have to be just right. now doubt an aquatic civilization could exist, but spacefaring? i highly doubt it.\
- Yes i double posted. but its to late now
As I stated, with the use of thermite, (Often used in underwater welding) aquatic species could shape metal.
With that in mind, how far do you think they could get, technologicaly that is.
I would guess, but I doubt a fully aquatic civilization could pass the medieval ages, technology wise. And the underwater smelting is iffy at best, so I highly doubt precision welding would be widespread, or even possible.
True, very true, Personally, I think aquatic species should be able to unlock the space age, since waterworlds will be a thing.
Worlds entirely water without any landmasses would most likely only be able to form if the guarantee of full game playability was turned off at the start of the game.
And actually, i feel like underwater civilizations should have an option to be enabled. possibly with the LAWK button.
I cant wait until his game hits multicellular stage, ive commented on decently popular youtubers vids to try it, so more people would support theyre patreon so the devs can afford a full time employee.
@OoferDoofer what will be your playstyle when the game comes out? I will personally seek knowledge to get a technological, and strategical intelect to have an edge on opponents.
by the way making thermite requires metallic aluminum which is super hard to make and isn’t found in nature.
Just because its difficult doesnt mean its impossible.
umm that’s definitely true but i don’t think it should be left at that. a given society would need some way to get vital resources.
Very true, but they could just travel to tropical and subtropic regeons and get bauxite ore, then put it a descent bit away from a vent, and boom, you have aluminum, then just shape it in a stonr box wih a sand mold. Bauxites melting point is 30c.
thats a great idea. i see something like a cross between our modern oil economy, the age of sail spice trade and the bronze age tin trade in bauxite. this sounds like an awesome worldbuilding exercise.
edit: and by the way bauxite needs slightly more processing but the environment needed is kinda exactly what a hydrothermal vent is.
edit 2: and bauxite mining works for an undersea civ too so this idea is awsome.
Hold on isn’t aluminum production very difficult, now I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure refining bauxite requires turning it to alumina with sodium hydroxide, then preforming electrolysis on it, using graphite rods, molten cryolite, and a lot of electricity.
Perhaps you mean native aluminum, an ore rarer than gold.
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
@Oncpapa Deathwake already said that a hydrothermal vent is all you need to refine it since a hydrothermal vent has certain conditions.
