I can’t believe there are people from my place supporting that in our current time. The US would love nothing more than to break us apart to better absorb all of us. This is literally like in Skyrim where the Stormcloaks are doing exactly what the Thalmors want. Truly pathetic. Also, the comments on the second article had me giggling. “PSPP is going to be disappointed. Danielle Smith started a bush fire and now she got herself too wet.” XD. Another thing: separatists in the comments refer to Canadian politics as Canadian colonialism. What the 🇧🇪 do they think this is, 1830?

think about it: what’s more profitable, letting people make unhinged stuff, or regulating them? regulation is expensive. Letting people make stuff that targets kids actually just gets you a very receptive demographic to sell ad slots targeting.

Yeah… counterpoint: monopoly!
youtube is a monopoly. I’m sorry but no one is using vimeo. (in fact the only reason they’d use it is because youtube banned them. the best way to gain market share is to let people be worse actually)
tiktok and instagram are close enough to the only others who even have their own servers, and they have already scared a lot of people away with the rampant censorship (shadowbanning and the partially legitimate reasons people say unalive) they probably can’t afford to loose anyone else, and it’s easier to let people tell the algorithm “that was weird I hate it” than it is to prevent you from putting stuff in there. Youtube cannot be taken down. How would that work? You’d need a decade to build up videos as the underdog, how are you supposed to fund harsher regulation? You’ll definitely scare away a lot of people if you regulate all that much more than youtube (ASMR gets pretty creepy, political content has strong defenders even when it’s saying truly wild things, same with politically incorrect jokes and such).. You’d only get anyone by letting ppl do something youtube doesn’t, and you’d never get everyone.
