Viruses?

Finishing the game, almost forgot! Well, in the future I hope!

For now the developers are busy finishing the microbe stage, to be complete by the end of this year…

There are two big problems with what you are suggesting.

  1. Currently, it is not planned for Microscopic/Multicellular and Macroscopic+ creatures to be able to interact. This is partially for game performance reasons, and partially because having a smooth enough transition for that to work would add years to development time and hours to playing time, and most believe this is not worth it. Though you are certainly not the first to want to play as a microscopic organism in an AI macroscopic world. There is also talk in several places about playing as an internal parasite. Macroscopically, this seems plausible, but it will likely take someone pretty dedicated to program microscopic/macroscopic interaction.
  2. The other problem is the strong opinion that fist place is the only meaningful thing and that being passed by the AI should result in an immediate game over. I will never understand the over competitiveness of some people. I personally am a supporter of playing in a world where the AI has passed you up, in which you can try to overcome the hardships of being an Aware creature in an AI’s Space stage world, and made a post arguing for it here, but that would not fix problem 1.

Finally, some progress.

Multicellular is halfway done. It has some glitches and needs a few more features added, most notably competition and a reason to specialize and organize your cells, but is decently playable now.

Also, welcome to the forum, @Magiccat.

Wasn’t it suggested that the ai could surpass you only so many stages ahead before it’s further progress is capped until you move to a next stage?

Yes, for multiple reasons, if the AI is allowed to pass the player, it will not be allowed to invent FTL, leave your solar system, and/or meet other species on other planets. The β€œGalactic Stage”.

If you entered the galactic stage would the transistion be relatively abrupt or smooth when compared with other stages’ transistions for instance?

Would Galaxy-wide viral diseases be possible in the game, like the Blue Shadow Virus from Star Wars?

No, because that’d require the virus to infect between different trees of life, which should be impossible…

Perhaps if it was a bioweapon?

Also, Providence virus infects plants and vertebrate and invertebrate animals…

It’d have to be some kind of a mega-virus to accomplish this sort of function probably…

I also proposed originally that this idea would apply only to LAWK turned off

Even then I am not sure if what you’re suggesting is not too sci-fi, as even nonlawk is supposed to be rather realistic in a way.

Oh well, just a thought

We could have things like early viruses that start alongside the player and act as a predator species, adding a new layer of gameplay including how to defeat viruses and be immune, these viruses can persist as illness in later stages, and plague in civilizational stages

Welcome to the forum @Starsail030 ! I am afraid it’s already been decided that viruses would not make it into the game for the current stages atleast. Though a volunteer could pick the topic up and develop it, it’s rather unlikely.

Oh well then thats okay

I will say however that viruses will probably atleast appear in the post-evolution stages (society, industrial, space) as diseases for the society to suffer

That would mean a healthcare system and some way to counter disease right?

Of course, diseases are a major player in the shaping of civilizations from what we see in the real world
