0.8.1.1 - After game loads, microbes are not visible on screen, and I can't move or click any buttons

After I started the game and loaded a save file, I changed to the Banana Biome, and it spawned me with this screen:

I did not have full resources before going into the game, and my ATP bar did not change. In fact, I could not even click on the button to go to the editor, or any other button. Save for the pause button. I could not even move when pressing any of the movement buttons.

The strange thing is that even though I changed to the Banana Biome, the game log does not register it as such.

That does seem pretty bad, and not an error I’ve seen before. Does the error happen again if you load the same save after restarting Thrive?

My guess is that if you have the full log, there is hopefully some error higher up in the log that has caused the underlying error that then prevents the physics system from being initialized.

Fortunately, the same error did not happen after I reloaded the save file. And this is not the first time I have noticed “PlayerInspectInfo doesn’t have physics world set” in the output log, but this is the first time I encountered this bug.

I was also playing the game for a long time for my FG, and I encountered errors with loading the save before this bug happened.

Here is the rest of the log. I had to restart the game before the bug occurred, since my computer was on for a long time, too. I wonder if this error only occurs in OpenGL mode?

Hmm. The news feed fetch error shouldn’t affect anything so… it’s very weird the physics world error is the first one.

I don’t think we can do anything about the error unless some more error messages show up or some way to get the problem to trigger even somewhat consistently is found.

I think aah31415 is correct in that the errors just keep on piling up during very long play sessions, as this was how I previously got “PlayerInspectInfo doesn’t have physics world set”; I will test this over the next few days to validate it.

How long was that session, do you think? If it’s reasonably short amount of time this happened it, that’d be worrisome atleast.

Several hours at a time. Sometimes, almost 9 nine hours at a stretch. I was not constantly playing, but also reloading saves, and sometimes the game was just idle for an hour or more.

An exception happened while loading the save data exception: Newtonsoft.Json.JsonException: Please try restarting the game, encountered Godot scene instantiation error! This should only happen due to engine bugs, failed scene: res://src/microbe_stage/editor/MicrobeEditor.tscn

It’s exactly as the error says, this is the random error where the Godot Engine stops being capable of loading game scenes correctly and requires a restart.

So as I feared this bug (or atleast a consequence of it) is rather unfixable from our side. And judging from the glitch being around for a while now, playing for a long time will remain unsafe.

There probably should be a warning put somewhere if this issue doesn’t go away about the dangers of playing the game for too long…

I agree. Maybe a pop-up appears after an hour or two of playing. The pop-up could be something like “Warning! There is a possibility of running into a Godot Engine failure if you play the game for too long!”

Or maybe just put it into the game when launching it for the first time since if I recall correctly the bug can trigger off at any time but it’s just gets more likely as the probability increases over time…

The same bug just happened, but this time after I loaded a save, and I cannot bring up the pause menu this time.

I think my game log is so long that even Paste bin is having trouble having it. What should I do?

If the save is this corrupted/broken, fixing it would most likely require digging deep into it’s files.
