1.6.0 General Feedback Thread

I think the problem is that if you’ve changed a cell, then try to duplicate it, it creates a copy of the original, and applies any changes you made to the cell afterwards, which basically doubles the amount of MP you spent on that change. To fix this, duplicate any cells you want to before making changes to them, then change them afterwards.

So I tried to get on land again using the same save. This time, I was able to get on land, and advance to the later stages. Weird. Maybe any movement, not matter how small, can make you spawn away from land? Also, I forgot to test using the skip credits cheat because the Jazz theme is too awesome.

I think we could test this out by seeing if the threshold for the dupli to fail is exactly at 50 mp

kinda unrelated, but i think the dev forums are currently down

No, they are up for me.
Welcome to the forum @NichtIrgendwer !

weird, i have been trying to access them for 10 minutes now while the community forums are (obviously) working fine

Maybe try entering them from the browser? Type in “Thrive development forum” and see if that works

This should not be possible, the damage distribution code does not make a difference for the colony lead cell.

Now that I tested it, it doesn’t appear to have resulted in damage being concentrated on the leader cell. Maybe I was hit with more toxins than I thought or it’s a rarer bug to trigger to happen…

Sometimes, especially when using faster game speeds, the damage does not distribute no matter what cell is hit. i experienced this primarily when digesting toxic prey, though sometimes when hit by normal poison and piluses

I think digesting toxic prey is supposed to only damage the cell that digests?

ok, i thought all damage was supposed to spread out over the organism

I think damage other than digested toxin and pilus damage should be

Hm, I’m wondering why it’s no longer possible to change the membranes of individual cell types in multicell. Previously this was used to create hard outer shells or spike resistant inner walls for vacuum type organisms, but this design seems to be no longer possible

Was it scientifically inaccurate to have cells of different membrane types before?

Yes it was inaccurate so now there can only be 1 membrane type for a multicellular organism

I haven’t played Thrive in a while, but my feedback is this:

Positive things:

  1. the new membrane sprites look amazing!
  2. also the new terrain chunks are awesome too!
  3. Sexual reproduction is literally overpowered lol
  4. big cells in multicellular

Negative things:

  1. I hate how my multicellular organism doesn’t look like in the editor
  2. Auto-evo never appeared in multicellular (IK auto-evo will get updated just saying)
  3. A cell named “Roberto” one-shotted me :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: /s

I think these were added in a while ago already?

It can be quite hindersome to try finding mates later into the multicellular

I also wish we could get an editor preview of how it’ll look like ingame but seeing the dev time limitations…

Maybe your organism was seek as a fluke by autoevo?

In multicellular?

The damage is distributed on hit. When reviewing the code I saw nothing in there that could be impacted by game speed.

That’s not the case. As I said somewhere recently, ATP damage is also not distributed.

Yes. In real life biology, all animal cells have a normal membrane, all plant cells have cellulose cell walls and all fungi cells have chitin cell walls.

The problem is that if we allow you to mix, the above will basically never happen.

We also hope to have your base properties in Macroscopic depend on which of these options you take, so that there are differences between different branches of the tree of life. That also requires there to be these differences.

In real life animals this kind of thing is something built outside cells, not through their membranes/walls. We may or may not have the time to add something like this for Multicellular.

And from what I’ve heard was said in the dev forums, if not this year, it may not be added to multicellular for a long time afterwards.
