1.7.0 Release Candidate Testing

Release 1.7.0 is approaching so it is time to do some testing on it. The usual public test build for the new version is now available. This release focuses on starting to polish up the multicellular stage for the release of it planned by the end of the year. In this release there are achievements and tutorials for the multicellular stage, balance tweaks and other smaller changes and features for the multicellular stage. AI species can now also enter the multicellular stage by themselves. There’s also been some upgrades to the macroscopic prototype and an achievement for reaching it, if anyone wants to check it out. Also as a long-time request, it is now possible to edit the full layout of your multicellular colony rather than just relying on the automatic algorithm trying to lay it out in a sensible way. We’ll reveal the full set of changes in a devblog next week.

One slight problem is that the “perfectly packed” achievement is probably way too hard to get right now. We will adjust that to be easier before the full 1.7.0 release. And also the Vulkan caveat that appeared in the previous release about older GPUs still applies as there has been no new engine update to fix that.

To access the beta build, you need to enable the Thrive Launcher option for showing them. Then you can pick the beta version in the Thrive version selector to play. The store versions of Thrive also have this new beta version available to select.

Please provide any feedback you have on this test build. We are especially interested in feedback on how the multicellular stage feels now and if it feels like it is missing some key feature still.

I quickly went over all the new additions and i didn’t seem to have any problems with them, i also like the new macro requirements!

I will very soon test this out in the autoevo exploration tool as to see how well they do vs their unicellular counterparts, this feedback could be especially useful if they are wildly (un)successful as it’d mean extra tweaking with them is needed to strike a good balance.

Maybe you need to play the game the proper way to see any?

YES LETS GOOOOOO

yes, once i finish my 1.6.0 hard run, i will start playing the beta normally

Why can’t you play the beta NOW instead of the hardmode, when the former would be more useful due to the feedback provided?

I need to finish the 1.6.0 hard run before 1.7.0 releases, as i said i want to complete Thrive on hard mode every release

Can’t you upgrade to beta-1.7, do the feedback in there WITHOUT touching the hardmode save and then go back to 1.6 to complete this challenge?

Thats what i am doing rn

also when will they add descriptions to unlocked achievements?

By 1.7 full release I’d presume, so that it is a complete feature for the release

i dont have any problems with the new features, infact i LOVE all the new additions to the macro editor (the membrane tab in macro is finally not useless!)

Could some things in multicellular use improvements though?

But they are already added?

Considering pukilar appears to have fastly skimmed over these new features at first, which they seem to have just completed doing when they made that post, maybe in this rush they did not quite catch that achievements already had their descriptions done?

Huh?

on the achievements i have already unlocked (even in the 1.7.0 RC) i only see their name, not their description on how to get them

Perhaps the description is visible for the steam thrive users? I don’t think the beta would’ve been reuploaded shortly after you downloaded it just to add this one thing…

Idk, i think we need Hhyyrylainen to explain what is going on

Yeah that should definitely already have a description.

I have encountered a bug (I think) where there were 0 currents in abyssopelagic, I have an autosave of that patch, would it be of any use or would the trigger for the bug have already happened by the moment it autosaved (would it be of use to share this save)?

Edit: There also appear to be no currents in caves?

Edit2: They returned after I stayed in the patch for another generation seemingly
