I’ve never been on a forum in my life, so sorry for all the etiquette things I screw up, and sorry for this strange ramble that I simply had to do.
I don’t like thinking too far into the future with this game, because it only leads to disappointment, but seeing the techyist demoyist tech demo macroscopic phase got me thinking about the gameplay loop down the line.
So as we have it now, your multicellular organism buds off a little baby cell and it matures and buds just like it’s “parent”. I can clearly see this continuing on into complex life with sexual reproduction adding on top of it that you need to find a mate after maturing. So basically, be born, grow up, find hot gorl, [censored], be born and you are back at the start. This will be the basic gameplay loop and it does seem fun, because as a child you are on the backfoot and it’s harder to survive as an adult. Besides, if you played as an adult for most of the time you would have a very near or blurry goal.
BUT WAIT! What about paternal and maternal animals when you reach the aware stage and such? If you play as a baby you get everything handed to you, which isn’t fun. So then what should happen then? Well just think about it! Be the parent! It sounds so fun, you have to take care of yourself, but also your offspring. The main challenge would not come from trying to survive as something not fully grown into the world, but instead you will be burdened with some stupid ai that eats, eats, eats, and runs into trouble. Once the child is fully grown, you become it and repeat the cycle. It sounds like a really good gameplay loop honestly.
Though the question comes of where exactly the evolution would take place and who it would effect. If you have baby and evolve your species then, would it affects the parent and child, or just child? If it affects the parent and child… why? it makes straight up no sense. But if it only affects the child then it seems like evolving is a bit too long of an investment as it would take one (1) gameplay loop (singular) for you to actually play the new version of your creature. Alternatively it could happen once the child grows up, and to that I say: “What the belgium are you talking about? That makes absolutely no sense, what about the model of the child while it was getting raised? This logic is full of holes!”
I don’t really know what I’m saying, I hope you liked the quick glimpse in my twisted and messed up brain that would make a normal person go insane. Also go ahead and say anything you have to add, this is a lovely thought I would love to expand it with yours.
