Bacteria and Sicknesses

How would bacteria and sickness work? Would bacteria also be an evolving AI, or would sickness not exist?

Diseases are rather important in real life, so it is to be expected they will be added later on in the development. As to their nature, I think they’ll have random chance to evolve along certain pathways depending on the biology of their hosts.

Also I suppose viruses could be introduced alongside bacterial diseases.

I’m pretty sure viruses have been discussed before, and aren’t being added due to their complexity of classification. They do evolve with their hosts, but they can’t really be considered alive because they can’t reproduce on their own.

I would like to say that this part is not completely true, since the bacteria rickettsia and chlamydia can reproduce only inside host cells. Did you mean viruses lack a true metabolism?

Yes, that is what I meant, I’m sorry
Pretty much all viruses are is RNA or DNA in a shell

Why would this disqualify viruses from being added as NPC diseases?

Maybe it’s possible in later stages, but I think it might make Microbial a little more complicated to code. This is also coming from someone with no coding experience

From molecular analyses, Viruses most likely existed at least before the divergence of the Three (or Two) Domains of Life. It may be possible Viruses have always existed alongside cells, or even perhaps arose independently from them, as with the “Virus-First” Hypothesis. This assuming that the viral particle is the true virus, where instead the virion is a spore, with some scientists thinking the virocell is the mature virus. Regardless, one hopes that a mod will be eventually made so players can play as a virus one day.

I suppose virus diseases as a whole would have certain properties different from bacteria diseases, such as a faster mutation rate.

Here’s the existing thread on this topic:

Viruses aren’t alive so if you played as them you would be basically playing an editor simulator + waiting simulator, which would be a totally different gameplay loop than the main Thrive gameplay loop. And as viruses aren’t technically alive, why should you be allowed to play as something that’s not alive?

By the way I presume fungus-like organism caused diseases, infections and other stuff will be supported in game, right?

But could viruses be added for later stages for a disease mechanic?

It’s meant that viruses aren’t viable as a playable class of life. That doesn’t mean they won’t appear when diseases come around in later stages of the game once the development reaches there…
