Below is the singular photograph recovered from the missing team B after their expedition into the dimensional rift

for the sake of viewer safety, we have censored the photographed Artifact

all further expeditions have been cancelled

Seems like the rift has been inspired by a certain series, too made in blenderโ€ฆ

I thought for a moment that this was inspired by Ultrakill.

I am fairly sure this thing IS inspired by that game, via the Genesis FG.

And hereโ€™s my renders:

The first picture reminds me of a coconut for some reasonโ€ฆ

Same for me. Pretty sure itโ€™s one of these more โ€œprimitiveโ€ hycaea organisms.

it is!
it inspired the dungeon design im going for in Genesis

I suppose the dungeon itself would be more โ€œgraphicโ€, right?

So I finished the model. Just finishing making the custom textures (It was already UVed properly) and weight painting it.

So hereโ€™s a scene:

Not really related to the thrive forum at all. Oh well. [1]

Throwaway idea for a boomer-shooter game. Iโ€™ll probably never end up making it, but itโ€™s what the technically models are for. But 3d modelling is kind of fun, might as well.

These guys are the Underground Black Operations, or U.B.O. They are one of the antagonist factions of the game and are supposed to be tough well trained enemies that play like fighting a deathmatch bot in quake or something.

  1. The reason for the scene above is that I still havenโ€™t made textures for the guns so the minecraft would be out of place. So to show that the model is rigged I did a salute because that is a pose a soldier would do without a gun. But then he wasnโ€™t filling the frame, so I added something that didnโ€™t need a new a model for him to salute overโ€ฆ Another black op dead on the floor. โ†ฉ๏ธŽ

What is a boomer shooter?

An older style of First Person Shooter game that eschews realism for fast paced gameplay, they typically have a large selection of weapons, diverse enemies, and complex level design.
Some examples would be Doom, Half-life, or Wolfenstein, or more modern games like Dusk or Ultrakill.
It is basically a synonym for Arcade FPS.

Who are the protagonists then?

Made my first animation. (Though very simple.)

Will you share it with us? If you do, consider doing so via a YT video as uploading the video here might take a toll on the forum storageโ€ฆ

Random tip that some noobs like me may find helpful: If your material preview is lagging really bad, go to preferences โ–ธ system and then in the display graphics heading change your backend from opengl to vulkan, then restart blender.

At least for me this improved performance from unusable on my new PC to butter smooth.

  1. Surprisingly on my old PC apparently the default opengl that I never changed ran just fine (in relation to everything else anyways), so if your hardware is severely out of date this may not help. โ†ฉ๏ธŽ

Thanks, I believe I will too find this useful. How did you find out about this backend switch though?

From my search history while trying to tweak blender in the background:

โ€œblender material preview extremely laggyโ€

โ€œWhat is cycles and eevee blenderโ€

โ€œHow to change viewport renderer blenderโ€

Original search again because I reached a dead end with the renderer. Someone on a forum somewhere suggested for blender an issue with nvidia drivers, so update those and install Nvidiaโ€™s cuda (I didnโ€™t know what that does, but it had a button in blender).

โ€œNvidia drivers ubuntuโ€

โ€œCheck drivers on linuxโ€

โ€œWhat is cudaโ€

โ€œHow to be sure I have cuda ubuntuโ€

At which point while trying to mess with cuda cycles render button in blenders settings I noticed in the menu was the option to change opengl to vulkan, I remembered that games will sometimes load vulkan shaders, so I tried it, it told me to restart, and then it solved my issue.

I did not need cuda.

I kind of thought you got it from some tutorial directly but ig this is one other way to discover such optimizations
