well were electronic photoreceptors accidentally invented? if so then a blind civ could make those on accident and after discovering it produced voltage in the presence of something they can’t detect try plugging a few into their brains and make higher and higher definition artificial eyes
Excuse me, WHAT? How to hell is a blind species going to perform neuro surgery, let alone make advanced cybernetics beyond what is possible in the modern day, and the brain regions for comprehending sight would need to be fabricated from scratch since it literally would not be in their brain to begin with; from a species whom couldn’t even prove cell theory to understand how this works; for a sense that they wouldn’t think of as important.

Think of what would happen if you jabbed a human infant with an electronic compass, that wouldn’t give them magnetoreception would it.

giving the infants a way to see light and confirming that it works so they can make higher definition simple brain interfacing cameras(that are more like a diode or a set of them that are specialized for adding energy to electrons instead of making light like LEDs), to make sure there are no misunderstandings here this is just sticking wires from diodes into brains not neuralink level tech
only if you don’t do it early enough in their development and in the right spot, they’ll learn how to use it eventually just like infants learn to use their arms and legs. one example: if you plug in an electronic compass to somebodies brain and connect it to the nerves for the skin around their torso and make them be able to feel north, south, east, and west then they will only need to learn which sensation is which cardinal direction and then they will have mastered magnetoreception and never need a compass again

No, the brain of infancts have already have the neural circuits to control their limbs, that’s why they can use them. But they wouldn’t have the neural circuits needed to process inputs from this so they can’t use it. Also, it would cause infections and their immune system would attack it since it’s q foreign object.

if they had it for long enough they would develop a part of their brains for processing visual info but until then it would be processed as sound or tactile information
never said it would work like human sight does, it would be obviously worse for a long period of time(that being at least 10,000-1,000,000 years assuming they don’t genetically engineer themselves to have eyes) due to their brains not being properly equipped for processing visual stimuli(cause they don’t have eyes)
also my ideas aren’t supposed to make sense to a human who isn’t either me, a mad scientist, or clinically insane half the time, they’re more supposed to just work

k, my thought process was this:
diodes make an electrical current when light hits them
brains use electricity(and chemicals but that doesn’t matter until they have functional eyes) to store and process data
plug a diode into the auditory processing center and light screams at you, plug it into the tactile processing areas and light makes your skin feel weird in the light but only in specific spots.
with this it is possible to have sight by either hearing the light screaming at you and using that information to know what you are looking at(if you make an electrical eye with millions or billions of diodes so they can scream at you in patterns based on what you are looking at) to make even smaller diodes for exciting electrons using light instead of the other way around(LEDs vs photodiodes[able to be shortened to PDs but it probably won’t return too many search results if you do]) and invent the microscope to make even smaller photodiodes and then actually make their brains properly equipped to their eyes(which would have likely started out with mc block resolution) since they can actually hear what they are doing when manipulating the DNA that shapes their brains or just manipulating the cells themselves, and once they discover Organic PhotoDiodes they can use those instead if they are advanced enough to use in their eyes
as you can probably tell i found the route where they try to make sense of photons screaming at them funnier and used that one for my explanation, photons tickling them would be more practical though
