When working with large multicellular organisms, I encountered a problem: even at maximum camera zoom, the organism takes up more space than the camera can capture. Unfortunately, I don’t have programming skills, but I’d like to propose an idea: I believe this problem can be solved by increasing the camera’s maximum coverage as the organism grows.
Welcome to the forum @Sckara3 ! I do recall this proposal has already been suggested once before, though I think there might have been problems with how increasing the view distance would allow the player to see stuff spawn in out of thin air
Welcome @Sckara3! And like aah said, this probably wont get implemented into the game, so you’re gonna have to live with this on your shoulders for the rest of your life
Well, for the rest of their playthrough…
Once in a while make ginormous organisms for fun, and they take up so much space.
I don’t really make those since I’d imagine it gets increasingly painful to play the larger they get
I think the camera distance is almost pushed to the limit where stuff spawns and the compound clouds stop. So we could maybe give like 10-15% more view distance but that would be it, then it cannot be increased any further due to other technical limitations.
So I could do that but it would need a bunch of testing to ensure no pop-in, and it wouldn’t really fix the problem, right? As players make really big things and would then again hit into the limitations and 10% more camera distance is not going to significantly help.
If anyone wants to make a PR out of this tweak, then I’ll welcome it, but I’m currently extremely swamped with a flood of bug reports so I can’t work on this at the moment.
Also I presume increasing the spawn radius would require increasing the total simulated area which’d make the gameplay part more compute/resource heavy I’d imagine
