Can't play 0.8.2.1 (GPU issue)

I think I got a CPU issue? Not sure, I know it’s been awhile and a fix was released for CPU issues, but I recently tried running Thrive 0.8.2.1 and it showed the title, then a black screen and crashed, it tried again and then crashed again, here’s the crash report, if it’s not related to CPU, I’m sorry:

Thrive exited abnormally with an error

I tried to run Thrive from the folder as instructed, but it crashed again just like with the launcher

Welcome back, @themewnmoon! Have you tried using OpenGL Mode? When you start the Thrive launcher, click on the gear icon next to “Play” for “Launcher Settings”. Under “Launcher Settings”, there should be an option to “Force OpenGL Mode”.

I presume you’re still using the same computer and so CPU as you did when you previously reported a CPU-related bug report. Since this CPU is apparently not very secured for the capability of playing Thrive in the future, it could be some new feature finally made the CPU model you’re using unsupported, temporarily atleast.

Also, maybe updating GPU drivers would be a good idea. Here is a link to the latest driver update for NVidia GForce GT 740.

We don’t know if it absolutely is a CPU issue, since the title has a question mark. Then again, I am not a dev or a computer technical person, so it still might be one…

Hello,

What cpu model do you have? It is correctly activating the fallback which should cause any cpu issues to go away, but it is possible there might still be a problem if the cpu is old enough.

Also like @AnthropocenianAge mentioned, trying out opengl mode often fixes a lot of unexplained crashes, and might be the problem given your model GPU.

I tried OpenGL, seems to be working alright, I’ll try to install the GPU update too and see if that helps. And just in case, my CPU model is Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3240. The reason I don’t know if this is a CPU issue is because I reported it with my CPU model when I had a problem with a 0.6 release, a fix was made and I have it installed, it worked perfectly for 0.6 but now I can’t run 0.8 so I thought it might be related.

Either way, thanks alot for the help everyone, I’ll try to upgrade the GPU and see how that goes.

May I ask, when did you buy/construct this pc? Since iirc the developers only plan to support stuff from like 15 years before at max in the future (so for instance in 2040 that’d be a 2025 device).

To be completely honest, I didn’t build or buy it. This pc used to be my older brother’s pc before he just kinda gave it to me and said to do whatever with it, I don’t know if he built it himself or our parents bought him the pc.

About the bug, everything seems to be running alright with OpenGL mode but the GPU update link doesn’t work for me, so if this is a GPU related issue I can’t get the update and see if it helps

Your CPU supports all of the extensions that Thrive needs, so it isn’t a cpu issue.

Here is a link to NVidia. You can manually search for drivers using the dropdown options. You can also change the language at the globe icon near the top of the screen. Does this link work?

If it works in Open GL mode I would just keep it like that. I’m assuming that the GPU you have just doesn’t support the newer version of Vulkan that Godot uses. Updating drivers probably won’t help as NVIDIA has EOLed that GPU.
