Cell transformation

Add the ability for cells to transform into another type of cell during growth (or other conditions); this ability is very necessary for multicellular organisms, but unicellular organisms also have it (for example, amoebas change their structure from completely immobile to active heterotrophs during maturation)

I can guess no matter what, the microbe stage functionality of this would be put on the “post-1.0.0” shelf.

As to cell transformation in multicellular, I guess once you operate on tissues instead of cells you will be able to do more advanced things with them, like changing the cell types making them up.

This sounds like the “Debatable Feature” “Addition of seperate forms of a cell for lifecycle stages or interchangable “modes”” on the release roadmap. At least they are considering it. Hopefully, after progress is made on the Caste System, some features, like life stages and gender, will be worked to be made backwards compatible with single celled organisms. Gender actually first evolved in Eukaryotes, though it makes sense they are waiting until multicellular to mess with it.

That will depend on if any developer volunteers to code this feature in.

Well…

To be honest the debatable features section only exists to throw stuff out of the roadmap. So nothing is getting back from there to the main roadmap unless there’s a developer championing the feature through the design, science review, implementation, and game balancing process. So far I don’t remember any features getting resurrected.

So “considered features” are like “we’d like to add this in but we don’t have the resources for doing it”?

More like “this has been seriously suggested but either the idea is too incomplete, too hard, or there was some other consideration to not commit to developing it”

But some debatable features do match the reason of not having resources for doing it, which kind of is the underlying reason for all of them. Because for example if some idea was (like endosymbiosis) that required ripping apart all of the organelle handling code and most of the microbe editor and auto-evo energy calculations, that’s still kind of “not enough resources” as the idea could be done if we had enough programmers to redo like 30% of the game in order to get the idea implemented.

I guess this feature pile will keep growing every stage…
