Both simultaneously. It has long nights when behind the planet and long days when in front of it. I assume being behind the planet would be even colder than one side facing away from the sun while part of the planet/moon is still in it. And that length of time without direct sunlight would likely increase the effect. As you yourself suggested in the biome thread, it could be like changing from summer to winter every couple of weeks.
