Also would ascension be it’s own thing or be sort of a merger of all three?

From the perspective of development, it seem like ascension adds barely any work compared to everything else, as it is just removing limits at the end of the game. Even a more developed idea for things for the player to do in ascension would still likely require little work compared to all of the other stage’s features. I don’t imagine us to ever have a major release solely focused on developing ascension for example, as I am not sure how much there would be to add. Most of the neat things to do at the end of the game would likely be about as applicable to do in the late Space stage, so any ascension specific features would likely just be enabling cheats in various fun ways. And those cheats would be primarily relying on the work done in previous stages.

So, I didn’t include Ascension on there because I don’t think much development focus or time needs to be spent on Ascension Stage and after. Most of the time when Ascension is talked about it is discussing the actual process of ascension which is just the end of Space stage.

I can imagine ascension might just be getting developed bit by bit each time a stage is complete. So for instance when multicellular is complete, there will be ascension tools relating to that stage added in.

And even if the ascension tools aren’t added in when a stage is complete, the vast majority of the actual development will already be done.

And also it’s expected that we’ll have quite the larger devteam than we have now when space stage development comes to an end.

I find it difficult to imagine a reality where Thrive has completely delivered on its vision for the game while also remaining stuck at its current size in community and devteam. It seems almost like a paradox.

Yeah, doing that would almost be impossible.

I wonder who else will join the Thrive Community and Developer Team in the future as the game grows?

Certainly much more people, especially if the goals regarding 1.0.0 external popularity are indeed reached.

What are the plans in case 1.0.0.0 external popularity goals are not reached?

Not sure what is planned in that case…

I think even if 1.0 does not have a very great release I would expect it to still be good enough for us to get through to solidly starting development of macroscopic stage, which I think is the point at which we would be able to get a new wave of attention from 3D creature development. If macroscopic stage is unable to attract the right amount of attention then that would be a pretty bad sign for Thrive’s prospects.

I think we might have to consider going straight into developing macroscopic development if 1.0’s release totally fails, as that would be a sign that microbe stage is not able to attract any more attention, which would likely apply to multicellular as well. I doubt this would have to be done, but I would certainly argue for this path if it unfortunately happened.

Would using already player-made macroscopic organisms help with advertising for the game?

I think being able to show off a 3D organism editor that is impressive would be the best backup plan to have if the game that we have developed so far is unable to attract enough support. And having players show off neat macroscopic organisms would certainly be a part of that. Spore is still popular on youtube, and its not because its gameplay was so fun, its because creating its creatures was so innovative and is still fun to do.

And creating critters in the 3D editor should also be fun in Thrive.

I hope the Macroscopic controls become better, and/or easier for future players to use.

Of course that will happen, the current 3D editor is rather barebones.

You just suggested the Spore system of downloading species made by other players into a playthrough??

That concept is patented until 2027-12-31:

US7867093B2 - Video game with simulated evolution - Google Patents

A video game that provides a player game play experience that simulates an evolution process is disclosed. In each stage of the evolution process, the player can create game content that is uploaded to a server. Other players’ game content can…

Are there plans to implement the idea of downloading and sharing species made by other players after the patent expires?

I guess it’s in a reasonable timeframe for it to be implemented in macroscopic/aware development. As long as EA doesn’t extend the patent.

I hope EA does not try to buy Revolutionary Studios…
