Continuing the threat about compound colors started in https://community.revolutionarygamesstudio.com/t/0-8-1-release-general-feedback/8187:
Ammonia has the highest potential for being assigned a different color as it’s white in nature (as we already discussed), which color has already been taken up by glucose.
What can we change the color to then? Red, yellow, white, purple and green are taken up by other compound colors and blue/cyan would probably blend in with the patches’ backgrounds.
What about Magenta for Ammonia? That is a secondary color.
That could work if it and phosphate don’t look too alike… which could require pushing phosphate closer to indigo if needed.
I like this idea, since the color of Phosphate would not change that much…
Maybe there also could be option for the player to choose the color of ammonia themself, with there also possibly being presets like orange, magenta, and any other color that’d be accepted as a viable color for ammonia?
Possibly even a better idea!
Is there a problem with the color I assigned for Hydrogen Sulfide? I thought it matched well since its icon is already yellow-green.
The question remains if such modification of cloud colors by the player would be easy enough to implement by the devs. If not, I hope atleast the option to switch between different cloud colors would be actually implementable without too much trouble.
No, I just say that maybe it’d be easier to justify the switch of the color of ammonia to something more distinct, through h2ses color could also end up being green too, as long as it’s still distinct from mucilage color.
It’s different, I’ll update this reply with more images in a moment.
I was a bit worried that h2s could be hard-to-distinct from mucilage if it was turned saturated green, but hopefully as long as it’s saturation stays like how it is now, mucilage will appear distinct from it.
I also worry about whether people might accidentally run into Radiation chunks more, since they are also green.
The glow present around them and their name when a cursor looms over them should be enough of a warning to prevent most from accidentaly dying to these chunks.
With my modified colors as per the first message in the thread (please tell me if I’m not supposed to upload many images):
Hydrogen Sulfide chunks:
Radioactive chunks:
Mucilage:
Hope that clears your questions
My only problem is that ammonia looks too much like HS when they’re not close by each-other for you to be able to compare their colors. Should be easily fixed by shifting ammonia closer to red, and hydrogen closer to blue in the HUE spectrum though.
Or, once again, that could be fixed by adding in the compound symbolage ontop of the clouds, especially if there’s a large demand for it (from the colorblind for example).
That’s a completely different solution with its own problems
I know. I do wonder what the devforce members themselves have to say about this proposal…
I don’t think we should change the compound colours… If someone really wants to see this happen and does the technical implementation, I’m willing to take a look and not prevent it if the majority of the players think that the recolour is good. Though a technical implementation needs to fix all the new bugs it would cause with various text in the game mentioning clouds by colour.
Hello Hhyyrylainen. I already did the technical implementation, I didn’t know the compound colors were mentioned by text, but it should be an easy fix - just have to skim through their respective mentions.
You can do that, but I think that even our wiki text has references to the compound colours, and of course the icons and other assets (like chunks) are designed based on the current cloud colours.
