Devblog #48: Planet Achievements

Thrive Version 0.8.3 is now out! Once again, this is possible only through our community. We would appreciate any feedback on the dedicated thread: 0.8.3 General Feedback Thread

I find it kind of interesting that an organelle managed to go down to “minor features” of a release, though I suppose hydrogenosome is just an anaerobic mitochondrion afterall.

I agree, it was a surprisingly feature-filled release considering several people were a bit less active for a stretch.

Since 0.8.4 is supposed to be the second-to-the-last release of the year, and the plan is still to complete the microbe stage by the end of december, would that mean there’d be no 0.9.0 and instead we jump straight to 1.0.0, or is there a chance 0.8.4 turns out to be 0.9.0?

We might need to release 0.9.0 early in December and then like 2 weeks later drop the 1.0 once a bit more polish is done based on the feedback of the last release.

Well such a release cycle would be rather unusual… I suppose those 2 weeks between 0.9 and 1.0 would be amongst some of the most intensive periods of thrive development ever?

They would be purely focused on polishing up the game rather than adding new features.

That does not mean there wouldn’t be much to do, especially if much stuff remains to be polished by the time 0.9 releases…

Should be noted that by the typical rules of version numbering there is no need for a 0.9.0 in between 0.8.4 and 1.0.0, just as much as there could also be a 0.10.0 and 0.11.0. Though I suppose you only ask because there is a 0.9.0 on the roadmap?

Yes I know about that, I recall it was mentioned back when the roadmap was crafted that an entire “major release” could be potentially skipped.

It would be nice if you added a setting for hydrogen sulfide to disappear after oxygenation and added new achievement icons.

Also, as for me, it would be better to replace the name of the achievement “tasty radiation” with “nucleus energy” (I made a sketch of how the icon for this achievement might look)

I think it’s spelled “nucleous” properly, so perhaps it should be renamed to “Nucleoular Energy”?

Maybe it is an American English verus British English thing?

Probably since it marks “nucleous” as incorrect.
