On first playthrough I didn’t even know the evo button was a button at all, so maybe add a little “you’re ready to evolve, click here” thingy, to the starting tutorial for us dumb people
Try turning the tutorial on maybe? It might not have been added yet to the new version but it’s obnoxiousness still explains everything.

There should be a tutorial popup if you ignore the editor button for like 30 seconds, telling you to press it.

Okay, just tested, and I remembered that the tutorial was for playing for 3 minutes without evolving. I was just planning to have that “hey you can evolve now” tutorial.
I’ll actually make it really quickly, so it can be in the next release:
