Feedback on Graphics Presets

Since we have just added in the graphics presets, we would like your feedback on the configurations we have set up.

If you are using the graphics presets, which one did you choose? Did you change some of the options in the preset after selecting it?

I think for me the high setting does good enough, it seems similar to the settings I’ve had before the introduction of the presets.

I mean the high preset is basically our default options that we’ve had for years. And that’s basically tuned for any reasonable gaming computer to run it fine. The lower settings are mostly intended for people who try to play Thrive on old laptops (or other kind of obsolete hardware).

Is it stated anywhere that high is the intended default and not medium?

No, but the game should just default to it unless it detects you have low RAM or CPU core count.

(I just realized there’s a bug in the game where resetting to default settings doesn’t reapply the preset detection for lower end hardware. I’ll fix that on Monday)

Graphics Preset Feedback:

  1. I tried the lowest graphics preset. While I did get occasionally higher than 60 FPS, the game does not look that great, which is expected for a very low graphics preset. This is especially conspicuous when cells are moving through resource clouds, appearing jagged in appearance. It might be because of the low resolution scaling.
  2. On the low graphics preset, cells definitely look better. It might be because of the higher resolution scaling. I still occasionally got higher than 60 FPS.
  3. Medium graphics preset looked much better, most likely because the resolution scaling is 100% and majority of the graphic options are enabled. My FPS started to drop below 60, but it was only a dip of 3-4 FPS, so not a big deal. This is probably the closest to the all graphics options that I typically use.
  4. When on High graphics, my FPS did drop (when not paused) to around 50-40.
  5. Very High graphics dipped my FPS even more, going as low as 38-32 FPS.

Thanks for the feedback, do you think you will continue to use the medium graphics preset? Or is there anything that you have tweaked?

They did say it’s the closest to their graphical settings that they had already been using before, so I’d imagine they would use the option closer to the optimum (that being their custom made one).

I just turned off the 3D menu backgrounds, and switched to MSAA, but with anti-aliasing turned to x2 and the other option (the name escapes me at the moment) to x2.

I also always turn off the 3D backgrounds when I use a rather low end laptop I have
