Fun Fact

its a diminutive, as pupper is to pup. It means smaller and cuter.

I wonder what sort of animal or animal form/state was this based on…

Archaea, like Bacteria, can be Gram-Positive (have only the S-layer), or Gram-Negative (has a polymer layer before the S-layer).

Schematic illustration of the supramolecular architecture of the major classes of prokaryotic cell envelopes containing surface (S) layers. S-layers in archaea with glycoprotein lattices as exclusive wall component are composed either of mushroom-like subunits with pillar-like, hydrophobic trans-membrane domains (a), or lipid-modified glycoprotein subunits (b). Individual S-layers can be composed of glycoproteins possessing both types of membrane anchoring mechanisms. Few archaea possess a rigid wall layer (e.g. pseudomurein in methanogenic organisms) as intermediate layer between the plasma membrane and the S-layer (c). In Gram-positive bacteria (d) the S-layer (glyco)proteins are bound to the rigid peptidoglycan-containing layer via secondary cell wall polymers. In Gram-negative bacteria (e) the S-layer is closely associated with the lipopolysaccharide of the outer membrane. The transparency of this particular image doesn’t do much good

Changed it to a version without the transparency.

The A option for Archaea could be what DM is in Thrive

Ironically enough, before I knew this, I would always use the double membrane when doing an β€œArchaea” playthrough since the Double membrane is stiffer and gives more health, like what Archaeal membranes would do..

β€œThe real Archaea were the double-membranes we used along the way.”

What is an archaea playthrough like?

Use Double Membrane, be Thermophilic, stay in Vents, and maybe use Sime Jet/Mucocyst and Experimental Settings.

And beyond that do you still progress to eukaryote and beyond?

Depends on if I feel like doing it.

How long do you play in such a run if you DON’T decide to acquire a nucleus?

Normally when I reach gen 20.

Also, fun fact. Archaea do not make spores (unlike Bacteria and Eukarya, which do), and they instead undergo phenotypic switching to help adapt to harsher conditions.

Would this be worthy of a new reproduction type or not quite?

Phenotypic switching is not involved in reproduction for Archaea, but it is used by the yeast C. albicans, and in Melanoma.

I presume it’s too obscure then to be included.

Ikrandraco is a genera of early Cretaceous (120 MYA) pterosaur with a crest on its lower jaw, like the Ikran flying creature from the Avatar films.

And it there is even a tapejarid pterosaur named Torukjara after the Toruk from Avatar?!

Pretty sure there’s currently living species named after a bunch of us presidents

Most mammals crush seeds while most birds swallow them and spread them elsewhere. Peppers basically evolved spice to filter out the wrong eaters and recruit birds as seed carriers. For example, chili peppers evolved a chemical called capsaicin that triggers pain receptors in mammals and makes them feel a burn in their mouth. But birds have a slightly different receptor, so a chili is just another snack to them.

I wonder if there exist some plants where the birds get filtered out instead…
