Disco Nucleus - You have to immediately surround your nucleus with bioluminescent vacuoles when you become eukaryotic, you cannot focus on other things until the nucleus has been fully surrounded after a few turns.

Phase 2: Develop fruits so abundantly nutritious that organisms that have evolved large brains have nothing else to do but sit around and philosophize. Or become a space-fairing species, whichever they feel like at the time.

Yes, and that other requirement is bananas. Think about it: apes are uniquely associated with bananas. There are other more abundant/stable food sources, but apparently only bananas will bring you to the next level of intelligence.

Well elephants and some corvids are pretty smart and they aren’t associated with bananas that much…

Also what quality of a banana specifically makes one more intelligent?

I suspect it is the same quality that allows the banana to manifest as an entire biome before even the first multicellular organisms develop.
Perhaps the banana is the first ascended being, and this allows it to manifest on a fundamental level of reality.

Think about it, is it a coincidence that:
- Some bananas have 42 chromosomes
- Global Banana Production is 42 Million Tons (in 2001)
- Bananas begin to ripen rapidly after around 42 hours
