Give us a way to digest toxins

Make it one of the lysosome functions or something, npcs keep evolving toxins and thwarting my plans of being predatory.

Welcome back!
Would you prefer something like having limited tolerances to some toxins, as suggest by Buzzboy (comment #6) in this Thrive Steam Discussion page?

Itโ€™s definitely a balancing act between making engulfment useless and making defensive toxins useless!

But for now, pili and your own offensive toxins are always options for killing toxic prey before engulfing their parts.

That still leaves you waiting for the corpse-dispersed toxins to vanish I think. Resistance to them should definitely be possible later on though.

no toxin resistence makes phagocyte cells useless as even if a cell only has speed reducing toxin, you will still take damage (usually to death). unlike chitin and cellulose, toxins have 0 way to circumvent them, whether youre a eukaryote or a prokaryote. yes, you can just kill the cell beforehand but that would turn your phagocyte into more of a generalist as well as leading to even more NPC toxic cells turning the game into a bullet hell

Lysosomes irl break down toxins, (as โ€œdigestingโ€ cells is a toxic process), so specialisation/upgrades to make it neutralise specific toxic agents would allow for a โ€˜filter feederโ€™ to not explode the second they eat a glorified sedative as well as not being too OP as youโ€™d need to specialise specific lysomones to break down specific toxins

I am not sure that even if useful, would toxin breakdown system fit in the current roadmap.

Also good to see you posting again.

Indeed any changes to this mechanic would be volunteer work, since weโ€™re kind of past it on the road map, but:

I think the idea of using lysozomes to limit toxin damage makes sense. But I wouldnโ€™t want it to completely disable defensive toxins, so weโ€™d have to ensure having more toxins would also increase the damage, turning it into an arms race.

I also think having resistance to each toxin type individually makes logical sense but is probably overly complicated, so I would change it to just having a lysosome upgrade that provides toxin resistance in general.

Would this new armsrace require some new miche-work to work properly?

I would have to check if the damage from engulfing a poisonous cell is correctly set up as effected by toxin resistance. But if it is, all auto-evo needs is the predation Pressure having a mutation strategy added to use the new upgrade. The rest should work itself out, with some balancing.

May still be too much for our tight schedule

Umm? Itโ€™s not on schedule whatsoever as this would be a microbe stage feature, and the stage is done so no development time will be scheduled for this at all.

One could say I told mine part as an โ€œeven if microbe features were still being โ€œworked onโ€, โ€ฆโ€.
Honestly right now it kind of feels like features โ€œmeant for the volunteers enthustiastic enoughโ€ are simply bound to be shelved for a long time, especially the โ€œlargerโ€ ones (such as this).

As I said before, this would be a volunteer project in any case.

Very likely yes. Thatโ€™s just the way it is, we donโ€™t have infinite resources. (including volunteers)

If anything Iโ€™d expect this to come up again seriously later into the macro development
