Ideas for the Multicellular Stage [Put your ideas in this thread]

I think there should be some sort of ATP transfer system between cells. In current game every cell has to produce it’s own energy, but it would be nice to have a “reactor” cells that work for the whole organism, and I think this is the way it works in real life.

This is a thing already in place pretty sure. ATP works like other compounds.

Do you have a source on that? So far each time this idea is brought up I think we’ve found out that it is actually unrealistic to share ATP. Like no multicellular species on Earth do that. Except maybe one but that is a fine counterexample but I think we’ll be fine with following logic that millions of species instead prefer. So even if technically it might be feasible, it just isn’t a thing that like really happens. Thus Thrive has more educational value when people realize the reasons why ATP isn’t shared in a multicellular species.

ATP is explicitly not shared, due to that real-life biology point.

Oh, I thought it was for some reason… And probably lots more thought alike too.

Yeah, I think the body of multicellular organisms rather shares glucose or fatty acids, but not ATP.

By the way, it looks like there’s an increasing movement for splitting the multicellular stage into two new stages. When should we expect this split to occur formally?

What do you mean by that? What are the two new stages? 2D and 3D?

Look at a discussion which was opened in the developer forums.

There is a development forum talk about splitting multicellular into a microscopic and macroscopic one

I’m a conservative! Just let it be the way it is!

The “microscopic one” would keep the multicellular name. The macroscopic one would become, well, the “macroscopic” stage.

This would be just to officially give full stage status to both early multicellular and late multicellular. The first one would get to keep the multicellular name and the second would likely be called macroscopic (like it already is called whenever clarification is needed).

don’t be a conservative, lets be radical and break belgiumz, we will fix it later i swear.

i definitely feel like neurons were just shoehorned in, i don’t think they belong in early Multicellular. Nervous system is right next to circulatory and Lymphatic systems for they are everywhere and it would be too much of a Pain to try to represent them separately. Developing the Central nervous system would be the key to making it to the higher stages imo, and when you develop the nervous system you should probably get a enhanced behavioral system as your species becomes more “Intelligent”

Axons don’t even do anything in early multicellular at the moment. They only become important when you go macroscopic.

Why do I keep getting bashed due to this? I just made a simple thing where the cell editor knows if it is used for multicellular or not, and based on that it either shows or hides the multicellular organelles. It’s just a simple system made for a quick prototype and over the past week multiple people have complained about it…

  1. Changes in cell type as an organism develops. Cell transformation The idea is that cells can change their type as the organism matures, for example your initial cell will be mobile, but after the number of cells in the organism exceeds 6 it will turn into a non-mobile cell type.
  2. Cell specialization and clustering. Smart arrangement of organelles The idea is similar, but the interaction will not be between individual organelles, but between individual cells.
I also have some small suggestions/requests:
  3. Fix the bug with changing the position of cells after entering the editor.
  4. Make it so that cells with cilia influence the speed of the organism’s rotation. (now organisms larger than 7 cells almost do not rotate)
  5. Make a UI for statistics of a multicellular organism.

  1. Increase the Number of Cells need to become Macroscopic (since they are now separate stages)
  2. Cell Growth Order (like organelle order, but for whole cells)
  3. Reproduction (I believe the current plan is 2 asexual and 2 sexual)
  4. Early Caste System (for Gender for sexual reproduction)
  5. Fix the bug where duplicating a cell with Suction Cilia or Injectsome Pilus and downgrading them, then deleting the new cell and repeating, give infinite increases to MP.
  6. Make the membranes connect so that things that don’t get caught between your cells
  7. Remove Nerve and Muscle Tissue from Early Multicellular

20 already stretches the game performance to about the limit (though with the ECS rework we now have more performance budget, but I don’t think we really have that much breathing room on older laptops which we need to design for as the minimum target).

And besides hasn’t everyone (hyperbole, BTW) complained recently that it is way too boring and takes too long to go from 15 to even 20 cells?

This is a bug and not an idea…

Same with this…

I’m too lazy to link all the issues so I’ll just link these few:

They do already. The math formula for this needs improving, though.

Also an open issue.

I guess not everything that is planned is clear to everyone (I’m biased as the main developer), but suggesting like stuff that is quite clearly just missing because the stage is a prototype doesn’t really add much to the discussion.

I think implementing half of the other things would make it less boring.

Would it be fine if organelles other than nucleus stopped rendering after your early multicellular creature exceeded perhaps 6 cells in size? Shouldn’t that help the performance?
