I'm "new" here

The game is called Edapt. It is called that because all the good names I could think of were taken. It is still in the very early stages but ill probably make a thread about it once it is big enough that manually play-testing it myself would take like a week. It is heavily inspired off of Thrive but I have a few ideas that could make it different.

It looks something like this:

How does the editor look like?

When I was planning twice as much for part 1, I was going to call it โ€œWood if they Couldโ€, as the main point was proving they could use the waterproof adhesive for making both Mud Bricks and Woodworking, making Support Beams and Gears and the like, from Tidal Zone wood-y plants like Palms and Mangroves. Since cutting part 1 in half, I have changed my mind on what to call the shorter first part a few times, and may change it a few more by the time it is done. The actual Woodworking and Mud Bricks portion of the argument are going to be in part 2 now.

What sort of way are you planning to make it different, or is that classified?

So part 1 now will be an introduction of sorts?

Part 1 has Basic Tools and proving the Adhesive itself and several uses for it (it has a rather large amount of uses). Part 2 will go into more detail about making Mud Bricks, how the creatures overcome the challenges of collecting materials from the Tidal Zone, several likely materials they would find their and their uses, actual Woodworking, and Wall making. I am also planning on proving they can use Fruit collected from the Tidal Zone to make Ethanol, using the Ethanol to make Cooking Oil, Vinegar and Acetic Acid, mixing the Acetic Acid with the Waterproof Adhesive to make a stronger Adhesive, and using the Vinegar to make Tin Chisels, but I am not yet sure if that will be part of part 2 or a separate part 3. After that will be proving all the Simple Machines and a few special variants, including the Water Screw, then making a Crane, then Mortar, then the Oven, then using Fire to make Potash and Sodium Acetate amongst other things, then increasing the heat, then Hydraulic Concrete, then Smelting something stronger than Tin, and then improving their use of Electricity. If I get that far, then I will try to prove a Breathing Apparatus/Surfacing Suit, but at my current rate, that will be like 20 years from now. :face_exhaling: But I have faith in my project (and also hope that after posting a few parts, someone with more time than me will jump in and help).

You need to take your time if you donโ€™t want the big blue robotic eye taking down the parts due to them not being on the level of a scientific paper

I do wonder if someone will finally be able to prove an underwater civilization can get to space. I donโ€™t really think itโ€™s possible, but one can hope.

Even if it will take years for all the Poodelโ€™s parts to come out

It is a placeholder for an actual editor system that will be made later, but here it is:

Itโ€™s not classified, so here are some of my ideas:

Playersight: Seeing from the eyes or sensory organs for the entire game up to the start of the Civilization Stage. This does not just apply to the 3d macroscopic organisms. Chemoreceptors are planned to have the same effect as eyes but for the Microscopic Stage. In case youโ€™re wondering how you could possibly see from a 2d organism, what I plan to do is use retracing or something to scan the 2d environment for anything that the chemoreceptor an see, and project it onto a 1d line stretched vertically to fill the whole screen so that we can actually see it.

Stage Before Microbe Stage: I plan on eventually adding a stage before the Microscopic stage which could either be called the Protenoid Stage, Nanoscopic Stage, RNA stage, or Archaic Stage. It will be all about forming the first cellular life from almost nothing. I have no clue what the game play could be like though.

Rejected Thrive Ideas (and other unrealistic stuff): Thrive has rejected a lot of stuff for being too unrealistic, which is fine for thrive because it follows itโ€™s design philosophy, but I donโ€™t plan on exuding things because of realism. While the game will try to be decently realistic (not perfect because it doesnโ€™t need to be, as Thrive exists), any unrealistic stuff will be able to be enabled through a version of the LAWK toggle with multiple states. Such ideas include life on barren planets and gas giants, UNDERWATER CIVILIZATIONS, hyperspace travel, magic, and the multiverse.

The game will have 5(or 6) stages (The names are pretty self explanatory. The stage names are simple because I find stuff such as โ€œAwakening Stageโ€ to be confusing):

Nanoscopic Stage

Microscopic stage (Microbe Stage and Multicellular Stage)

Macroscopic Stage (Macroscopic Stage and Aware Stage)

Civilization Stage (Awakening Stage, Society Stage, Industrial Stage, and Space Stage)

Multiversal Stage (Ascension Stage?)

Thatโ€™s about all the ideas I have right now, and it will probably be done by 2060!

If your Nanoscopic Stage gets finished, do you think the Thrive devs would allow for it to be added to Thrive with your permission?

Probably only if itโ€™s realistic enough and meets all of Thriveโ€™s standards.

If a Breathing Apparatus/Suit can be proven, I think that Vulcanized Rubber, Plastic, and Glass should all be possible, but I myself still canโ€™t yet visualize how making a Combustion Engine that works 4 miles underwater would work. I donโ€™t think having a steam engine that only works above water and the majority of your population in cities built underwater would qualify as an Industrial Revolution. But maybe somebody else can figure that part out.

That does sound cool.

I vote for Proteinoid, with Archaic being my second choice. Speaking of voting, have you gotten to that part of the tutorial offered by discobot yet?

Itโ€™s for a different game though, adding it to the mainline game would be like creating a frankenstein monster

People have suggested pre-cell stage ideas in the past.

Those are unlikely to be added I believe

I have the same opinion. But who knows what other people think. Whatever name wins this poll is what Iโ€™ll call the stage!

  • Proteinoid stage
  • RNA Stage
  • Nanoscopic Stage
  • Archaic Stage

Thereโ€™s a tutorial?

This could be true, but the thrive Devs or I could edit it a bit to make it fit with the rest of Thrive. That is still far in the future though.

Is your game running on godot engine?

No, Iโ€™m using Pygame. I am in an early stage of development, so I might switch to Godot eventually. I might have to switch to add the 3d stages, but that is still far in the future.

Are you writing it in C sharp?

I am writing it in python because that is what I (somewhat) know.

I also canโ€™t believe this thread got to 100 posts!
