Ether-linked Hydrocarbon Membrane
Found in Archaea and Acidobacter on Earth, this membrane type is made of Ether-linked Hydrocarbons. Ether bonds are R-O-R, rather than R-C=O-O-R Ester bonds. Unlike regular Fatty-Acids membranes, which have two leaflets, or layers of hydrocarbons with their head groups facing outward to water, this membrane has both outer and inner surfaces connected together via Ether linkages. This makes the membrane more rigid and able to better handle higher water temperatures and water pressures. However, this makes the organism slower to move and respond to sudden changes in the environment, like Ph and Salt shock. Gives +1 C Temperature Flexibility, +100 kPa Pressure Flexibility, +1% to 10% Health, -1 to -10% Mobility, and +10% Ph and Salt shock duration.
