Ironman mode

Thrive’s extinction is currently toothless. There’s no reason to roll over and take it when you can just reload to one of the many autosaves; this also makes Easy Mode’s switch-to-related option irrelevant, since, again, you can always just reload until you make it through. The simple solution is to add in a mode where you can’t reload. Lots of games do this, although I’m unsure of how the particulars work (ex: whether there’s a measure in place to stop people from alt+F4ing to reload). Is this planned?

Wasn’t a “hardcore mode” in the works sometime ago that’d make a savefile unreloadable?

If anything, the fact that you can reload works in the game’s favor, since Auto-Evo will not generate the exact same species in the reload. Literally every other save/autosave and reload is a different timeline.

Perhaps if the “Swtich-species-upon-extinction” option was enabled, which can be enabled under custom difficulty options and is not just useable in Easy mode, it could change an Ironman mode game so you can only continue playing after extinction by switching species?

I don’t really know what you’re talking about here. The latest auto-save is going to be at the start of the last editor and the start of this run, so you’d never load to a save with any differences in species unless you were trying.

I was making it but got stuck. There needed to be countermeasures against players trying to cheese it with quitting the game etc

Only every other Auto-save starts at the last editor session; I will edit my previous comment to be more correct. So if you load a save from before the next editor session, with your organism in the biome, and play the exact same way, doing the exact same thing, Auto-Evo will be generate different organisms during the next editor session.

How complete was the feature as a whole?

It removed saving and replaced with autosaves and saves that happen when trying to leave game. The latter didn’t work though I think

Yes, but the person trying to add it couldn’t figure out how to prevent the very easy ways there was to circumvent the implementation so far that was started:

Oh, looks like I’m late replying to this.

I think that having a hardcore mode that is super easy to bypass is worse than not having the option at all.

I mean, you can just play while limiting yourself by not allowing yourself to go back to a previous save.

Ah, so an “Honestman” playthrough…

That could be as close as we’ll get to a true ferrum-man for a while…
